Alpha 1 bases? durable?

I'm stuck between getting the halo's and the alpha 1's but are the alpha 1's bases pretty durable or do they get scratched up pretty easy? Please help, +k to everyone who helps

Bases will get scratched up no matter what ski you have.

is your question about if the race bases will get scratched more easily? if so, then no. my pipe cleaners bases are fine (same as the alpha 1) and it is basically te same durability as my other park skis.

as long as you constantly wax and maintain the race base they will remain very durable

Race bases will be very durable and fast if you wax them constantly, if not they will get dry and softer quicker and to a greater extent than the bases in the halo's.

If you have a SKI IRON and wax at home and are able to wax them every other day you ski them the alpha 1's would be a better choice.

what is different from a clothing iron and a ski iron?does it really make that much difference?

as long as u keep them waxed, the alpha 1s will be better. the alphas are stiffer than the halos, so they will be better at big big stuff, while the halo is just about the perfect progression ski to get to the big big stuff.

Good luck on you decision, I just bought halos this year, and will be purchasing next years alpha 1s, as the next step.

holes get clogged with wax, doesn't work very well at all, just don't do it, iv'e heard some horror stories (extreme fire hazard etc.)

well i have actually been pulling whatever wax gets in the holes,out of the holes.I only put it on a medium temperature so i will stick with what i have for now.

I have one without holes, honestly it works better than some of the cheap ski specific ones, you just have to make sure not to get it too hot.

Way easier to fuck up a ski, I had a clothing iron I used for a bit that had a tiny ass sweet spot of temp setting, if you bumped the knob a little it would start smoking and sizzling the wax or just go cold.

Honestly, any ski is going to get beat up with enough jibbing.  But like others have said, it's about whether you want the extra speed from the Alphas.  I will say that if you don't mind the extra maintenance and stiffness, go with the Alpha, simply because (and this is just my experience) waxing skis isn't even a big deal and once you get in the habit of it you won't even notice.

Plus, at one of my local parks there was a jump that was almost unclearable with slower skis.  If I had a race base I probably could have cleared it without having to pop as hard as humanly possible.  For those things where you need to gain a lot of speed over a short distance and for just plain fast shredding (and who doesn't love to go insanely fast?) the race base will prevail.
