Why snowboarding is better than skiing...

The above title was just to draw people in... I don't think either is superior, but I personally enjoy skiing much more. Snowboarding is not better than skiing.

I apologize if this is a repost, but someone showed me afterbang.co.uk Here is an article from it that is sure to spark some argument.

rails are a lot better in snowboarding, but it is a lot harder to press on skis then it is on a snowboard. When it comes to jumps though, skiing is way iller. We have the chance to cross our skis and have so many posibilities of rotations and grabs. But then snowboard movies have 2-3 years in advance on skiing.

its a tight race but i'll give it to snowboarding.

I don't really see how rails are better with a snowboard. Skiers have so many more options, from presses to pretzels and the whole world of tricks skiers like Andy and Will are opening up it seems like skiing is superior when it comes to any aspect of park.

i just want to say, having recently switched to skiing from snowboarding, i'm certainly impressed at how much more skiing seems to work your body than snowboarding. and though his article is really not supposed to be biased, it really seems to be. :P

how does it not make sense???

we can do presses, butters, and much harder tricks on rails and boxes, ever seen andy parry, yea good luck with anything looking that cool on a snowboard!! think how hard a skislide-bind soul is!!!- popping off one ski flipping that around ur back twisting 90 while swinging up ur other ski that was hanging off the box up on and balencing on one foot while u use the other ski thats behing ur back to push off the side of the box setting u into a series of surface swaps!!!

we can do much harder, impressive, and more dangerous tricks on rails then snowboarders could dream of!

we can even change directions of spinning on rails which adds a whole new level of dificulty and risk, can snowboarders fuck themselves for life because of one bad movement on a rail? NO!!

snowboardes go 50-50 on all rails and that looks like total shit! and some snowboarders i ski with never go boardslide because they are afraid of slipping out or catching an edge, we have to deal with that every fucking rail we hit!!! and we have 2x more edges to catch!!

and skiing is more overall dangerous, other then breaking wrists and tailbones, we fuck our knees all the time because they can twist and bendin other ways then they could on a snowboard, oh yea and we get shin bang!!!

and to think he thinks we cant ollie or butter, bullshit!!! we can do both of those and it looks just as good as a snowboarder if not better!!!

and how the fuck is going switch on snowbaord cooler then on skis, we actually go BACKWARDS, not just a different foot infront of another! he obviously dosent realize that skiing switch is a million times hareder then snowboarding switch, we cant even see half of what is infront of us, its a lot harder to carve and land switch, and taking off switch is a whole new thing!

the # of grabs on skiis is practicly endless, we can actoally cross and do much harder and byfar cooler looking tricks then them, and we tweak all the time!!! they cant have half the consequences of messing up grabs and so fourth, imagine if a skiier didnt get his skis uncrossed on a screamin seamen or if we pull off one of our skis while tweaking, yea, we would be fucked!! if u fuck a grab on a snowboard at least u dont lose ur landing gear!!

this is why skiing is a lot harder then snowboarding!!

for powder/bc stuff... skis have UPHILL MOBILITY... thats why all mountain guides (no hate to craig kelly of course) are skiers. we have EDGE CONTROL on rails not just reliant on momentum. we can pretzel way better, switch ups both ways better, and are getting closer and closer to snowboarders in terms of presses, nollies, butters, bluntslides. skiing switch actually looks cool, as it is actually backwards, rather than riding on a less comfortable side. snowboarders hit cliffs and land mostly on their back foot, making the largest airs ever hit a total skiers club. reverse camber/rocker easily makes skiing incredibly surfy and fun in powder, the same as snowboarders. so where's the advantage, having to push their way down cat tracks while we merely pole/skate? or maybe its having to take off both bindings on traverses due to lack of mobility and ruin the fluidity of the traverse with death march boot prints. most likely, its the amount of time spent at the top of each run putting on their bindings, lets them look at the view and appreciate their cold asses longer from sitting down while us stupid skiers are skiing laps around them.

i snowboarded for 10 years before I started skiing. bought a set of skis five years ago and I haven't strapped in to my board since. they're both cool as fuck. to each his own. half of the dudes that i ride with board and we all have an equal amount of fun. just pick your poison....it's all the same in the end....fun.

I can respect good snowboarders. But if you ever watch a snowboard and ski jump session, to me all the snowboard tricks look very repetitive, I know that they are doing technical stuff with different grabs. Its the fact that their legs are always in the same position over and over... That just ruins it for me.
