computer problem

alright, so in short. I just built my new computer. I went to install XP and forgot to turn on the raid driver. So I go back in BIOS (CMOS whatever the hell it is) and change that. computer restarts and the hard drives don't show up. I go into the raid configuration, adn they are shown there, but no where else. I have tried turning off teh raid setting, and they still don't show up. any suggestions?

2 WD 120 gig Serial ATAs

please help.

i think i had problems like this when i built mine, try restoring the BIOS settings to the defaults...that might work, but i am not a computer genius so i dont know, good luck

I've tried resetting the bios, and it doesn't do anything. I tried moving the jumper as instructed in the manual, and that didn't work. I even tried taking out the battery, and that didn't work.

You could have conflicting hard drive settings. I can't remember the name, but the plastic thingy that sets the hard drive to either master or slave need to be in the right positions. The harddrive with xp should probably be master and the other should be slave. If that doesn't work, try setting your BIOS back to default and starting xp in safe mode.

with SATA drives tehre is no master slave, they're plugged in independantly, so that isn't the problem...

however, when NOT using the raid controller, they work...I really wanna setup raid on this, because I'll be doing a ot of video edting, but it won't work with it... Maybe I'll try some other things.

so your saying you forgot to do the 'Press Fwhatever to install a third party raid driver...' when you did the windows install and no it wont work?

Macmahoon got it, when XP is very first starting down at the bottom it says to press F6 to install a third party RAID or scsi driver, you need to press F6 and have the driver on a floppy.

well, seeing as I didn't have the driver anywhere, cuase it's built onto the MB, I decided instad of doing that, I'll just leave it as is for now. Works fine and still flys with the 1 gig ram and 3.2 P4 northwood. but thanks for the help anyways, I may upgrade in the future.
