Check out a new event to hit Toggenburg this winter!
Here is the complete run down of the Toggenburg Super Sessions, going down February 19th-26th. All teams must pre-register before February 19th by sending an e-mail to toggparkcrew@gmail.com with your team name and the name of all your team members. Discounted lift tickets will be available to all team members who do not have a Toggenburg pass for only $20 a day. Happy filming!
THE IDEA
The Toggenburg Super Sessions (TOSS) is based on the long-running event, The Jon Olsson Invitational. Professional Swedish skier, Jon Olsson, invites the best riders in the world to his home mountain to ride, film, and create video edits of the event. The athletes receive full rock star treatment and session some of the world’s nicest features. We may not put you up in the Hilton for a week, and you may not be hitting 120 foot jumps, but we will have the park in prime condition for your riding and filming pleasure. Teams will have 7 days to film at Toggenburg and create a video edit of their week. The event will culminate at the TOSS Awards on February 26th at 7:00PM where all the entries will be shown on the big screen in the mezzanine of the main lodge. One team will go home with the grand prize purse at the end of the night and awards will be handed out for sub-categories such as best filming, best editing, best theme, etc.
THE TEAMS
Each team will consist of a videographer, photographer, skier, snowboarder, and grom. The videographer will act as the team captain. The captain can choose to have a photographer, or they can act as the photographer themselves. They will also be required to choose one skier, one snowboarder, and one grom (any skier or snowboarder 15 years or younger). Riders may not be used by more than one captain and teams can not be changed after the competition starts. This means if there is an injury throughout the course of the week, no riders may be substituted. Choose your team wisely. And remember, this event is open to rider and filmers of all ability levels, it's all about having fun. If you think you and your friends will have a good time, get a team together!
VIDEO REQUIREMENTS
There are some strict rules that need to be followed in the production of the video edits. All filming must be done at Toggenburg, between February 19th and 25th. Any video with shots from other locations will not be allowed in the judging. This is an honor system that we trust everyone will follow very closely. Edits may not contain any vulgar language, obscene gestures, or offensive material (this goes for both the riders and the music used in the edit). Basically, if you wouldn’t show it to your mom, keep it out of the video. The videos will be publicly shown at the TOSS Awards, any edit that’s deemed inappropriate will not be allowed in the competition. Keep it clean or don’t bother entering. Each team will be required to incorporate at least ten still photos into their edit. Creativity with the photo presentations will be rewarded. Videos can be no longer than 5 minutes and MUST be uploaded to Vimeo, no other formats will be accepted. A link to the video must be e-mailed to toggparkcrew@gmail.com with the subject “TOSS Video Entry”, no later than 8:00PM on Friday, February 25th. This is a strict deadline, no entries received after this deadline will be allowed.
JUDGING CRITERIA
Judging will be evenly based on five categories: videography, photography, editing, athlete performance, and overall impression (creativity, theme, feel, etc.). Each category will be worth 20 points, allowing for a maximum of 100 points. Take note that while the riding in the video is obviously an important aspect, the majority of the judging revolves around the talents, ideas, and performance of the people behind the lens. We urge all the teams to come up with creative themes, intros, and/or story lines for their videos. And even though everything must be filmed at Toggenburg, that doesn’t mean it needs to be filmed in the park. Venture outside of the terrain park and get creative with your riding and your filming. The run of the mill, day in the park edit isn’t going to cut it in this competition. Any questions about the Toggenburg Super Sessions can be directed to Nick at toggparkcrew@gmail.com
