JOI 2011 First 10 Athletes Announced

First 10 athletes announced.

Jon Olsson (I might race now, but I will be ready to try to kill myself in april… )

Russ Henshaw
Elias Ambuhl
Andreas Håtweit
PK Hunder
Henrik Harlaut
Tom Wallisch
Sammy Carlsson
Jossi Wells
Alex Schlopy

The other 5 pros being announced one a week for the next 5 weeks.

New for this year is the invite system, 15 riders will be invited and another 15 spots will be open for video qualification. We’ve always wanted to give the up-and-coming a chance at JOI, so by having half the spots open for qualification we hope to change things up a little.

Qualification:
- 30 skiers take 2 runs, best one counts. 10 skiers move on (+ 2 wild cards).

Final:
- 12 skiers take one run, top 10 advance.
- 10 skiers take one run, top 8 advance.
- 8 skiers take one run, top 6 advance.
- 6 skiers take one run, top 4 advance.
- 4 skiers take two runs, best one counts.

To be honest, I really thought even at the time that this was all set up to generate more publicity to support the event and therefore the skiers. Jon gets sponsors based on the history of web hits for the event, and I'd say that increased attention by a whole hell of a lot. If it was genuine, it seemed strange to me the way they made up and respected each other so quickly following the drama. It's definitely not worth debating at this point, because no one would ever admit to making up that shit to generate income, but it seems like that could have been a very real possibility. That said, I expected Dumont to be invited despite what went on. Although if there's a conflict with his own event... it give the argument more validity.

Haha, as I posted the above speculation, I realized Jon or someone else involved will probably read it and either say to themselves "damn, this dude's right on the money," but more likely, "wow, this guy is dumb as rocks."

The comp format for joi is not the best, i'l agree with that. But i wouldn't say the final competition is the thing to look forward to during ji this year. The last time Jon did held the JOI (JOI alone, not along with JOSS) didn't they come up with a bunch of new tricks? And they had all the fun small contests during the 2 weeks.

What i'm trying to say is that i'm more excited about the practise sessions and smaller contests they will have.

Or the fact that dumont is NOT a big air skier, he is a pipe skier. The top 10 would smoke dumont in a big air contest, he just did dub 10s last year...

buuut, i think his dubcorks are one of the sickest looking ones being done right now, regardless if he should be invited

and as sick as bdog is, he isnt a big air skier, i wish he was in this, but he probly wont be

Thats literally his only "big air trick" if you didn't notice at xgames, switch 14, dub 16s were stock tricks.

UH pardon, shut the fuck up. He would get dominated by most at JOI, period. Tom got invited, so obviously team USA drama isn't there, he didn't get invited because hes not a big air skier, hes not in big air at the xgames, which is basically the deciding factor.

Phil Casabon isn't a textbook 'big air skier' either. There aren't 30 'big air' skiers in the game. Jon just is pissed at Simon for what happened last year, with good reason, but it is absolutely because of the Team America feud from last year that Simon didn't get invited. Also, you'd think that someone who spends so much time bitching at others for being wrong about skiing knowledge would be smart enough to realize that there was no drama with Team USA and Team USA wasn't even at JOSS last year.

Stop acting like you know what's up, this is exactly what happened with the 4bi9 tease thread, a bunch of stupid ass kid who think they know EXACTLY whats going on and are dishing out the drama like a 15 year old girl. He didn't get invited for the same reasons many others didnt get invited, because he's not one of the top 10 big air riders, period.
