summer books

i honestly dont like reading, but with my report card this morning came a summer reading thing and it said i have to read 3 books. I dont hang out at libraries and i dont trust the books they put on the reading list.

does anyone have any books that they especially enjoy, that i could be entertained reading with my low attention span over the summer?

3 books:

-Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson
-Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
-Fight Club by Chuck Palanuik

All three are relatively easy reads that are deep enough so that you can write a lot.

Actually, read Animal Farm by George Orwell. It's only like 100 pages, but its really good and you can write books on it's parallels to the Russian Revolution/Stalinism.

I suggest a book by David Sedaris, its a collection of short stories - Me Talk Pretty One Day. Thomas Wolfe - The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, Dave Eggers - You Shall Know Our Velocity, Jack Kerouac - On The Road (or Dharma Bums)

Those are all pretty interesting stories...some about drug culture others about consciousness and whatnot...

I have to read three books for summer assignments, and i dont have a choice. So consider yourself lucky. I also have to do math problems, biology problems, and a questions on one of the books i have to read. What a fucking bitch. Why cant those damn schools actually give us a break, and not just give us extended homework. FUCKFUCKFUCK!

biography of jim morrison, lord of the rings, best one:the old man who read love stories. i know the last one has a corny name but that book was awesome. it was about this old guy who went and hunted this animal thing (it was like a cougar or something). plus it was short haha.

Jenna, sounds like it'll be wasted on you, but it's an excellent piece of literature... Dorian too, but quite difficult, especially considering there's one fifteen page section of it that feels like two hundred.

^It is, although i've always found that people overrate it. I mean, everyone's read it, and yet most of them probably haven't even heard of The Dubliners. Maybe I'm just biased against non-prolific writers... Fitzgerald was a drunk. Funny, though.

What have you read? Read The Dead.
It's only about 20 pages, and it's one of the best short stories of all time.

Joyce is longwinded sometimes, but after ten pages of forgettable writing, he'll shock you with one of the greatest passages you've ever read on the eleventh. He's like Spenser that way. If you have the endurance, he's worth it.
