I skied with pins in my knee just 3 days before they were surgically removed. I had to wear a brace with my knee locked straight, and therefore couldn't turn left. So I compensated by over-steering to the right and riding switch when I needed to traverse left. It wasn't very smart but I was going crazy not being able to ski.
Another time I broke the growth plate in my elbow at wrestling practice, and then the following weekend, I broke my tailbone overshooting a jump while skiing.
Honestly I wouldn't really recommend it, but I completely understand doing whatever is necessary to go skiing.
