Replying to Go pro LCD backpac problems

have people gotten theirs to work? every time i plug mine in, it makes some sketchy clicking noise and the camera won't work until i take out the battery and put it back in. the little booklet says teh camera should be updated first, which i've tried multiple times...i just drag the "firmware.bin" onto the camera card (which has the folders DCMI and something else...i forget) and it copies in there...but i don't feel liek it's actually updating or doing anythign...i have a mac...
