Bad Mount

Go Brand Newt 09 Ehp's mounted the other day, used them as soon as I picked them up. Later on I seen that one screw was in my base, not a large bump but still very noticeable. Went to the shop wasn't to mad since the guy that did it wasn't there.

Bummer dude - but it might not be the end of the world. My park skis (Line Stepups) were also screwed too far and have base bumps, but it hasn't seemed to affect my riding too much. I try to keep a layer of wax on them at all times so that the bumps aren't so evident, but I still feel a bit of drag on groomers. As far as I know the screws will hold as good as any other, unless, like you said, you get a core shot right on the screw.

You should definitely go into the shop and make as big a stink as possible. Read over the fine print on the liability form that you signed when you gave them the skis. I haven't heard of a shop giving MSRP for botching a mount job, but if you're persistent they'll definitely hook you up one way or another - maybe even skis from last year's stock they're trying to get rid of. Your talking point should be "YOU RUINED MY SKI YOU BASTARDS I PAID $XXX FOR THIS SKI AND NOW ITS FUCKED UP BEFORE I EVEN RIDE IT AND ITS YOUR FAULT SO WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT"

Ski mounting - One of the few circumstances where too long of a screw is a bad thing.

If the ski looks right I would mark it so that you can tell which ski had the issue.  Go out and ski it.  If you rip the binding off, go back to the shop and demand new skis.  If they resist, file complaint with local BBB and post the name of the shop on NS and any other forum site you can think of, so other people won't get screwed too. 

I'm not trying to argue, but definitely try to resolve the issue before skiing on it any more. The reason for this is because if you do rip it out or even if you don't they can tell you that by skiing on the ski you have damaged it too, and made the problem more difficult to resolve.

Here's the thing, they've tried to fix it so ride them if you're comfortable... but for fucks sake don't go pushing it 100% until you're positive they're safe. However, if they aren't safe and/or the mount fucks up within 10-15 days of riding, you better be in that shop getting new skis.

I've had a mount rip out in 20 days of riding and though it was a fucking headache to deal with and took almost a full season because the shop was trying to get out of it.. I got a new pair of skis. I shit you not though, I had to get Armada's techs to look at the skis, tell me exactly which holes were drilled wrong, send my skis back to me at which point I had to document in detail everything... pictures, measurements, etc. Only after sending a in depth PDF of the "report" and threatening to get lawyers involved did they finally offer new skis.

Then again I've also had a shop give me new skis on the spot after mounting a pair of at like, -30 from center (back bidings were literally on the tails).

One more point, everytime you redrill in a new spot, the old mounting holes become the weakest point on the ski and are by far the most likely place for skis to break in the park. I did my senior engineering thesis on ski failure and this was one very obvious thing that stuck out to me. Those "plugs" they put in just keep water out and do pretty much nothing for actual strength. So ya, if you have to redrill a barnd new pair of skis because of a bad mount, you should just get new skis.

Well didn't get MSRP but $800 cash wasn't bad considering I bought them for $400 a week ago. I heard of 2 other stories and wasn't going to let them get away with it Total pricks when I got in there, I asked what he did when he fixed my ski, he pulled out the screw and it was fine he said? All he fucking did was razor blade to the base grinder, this is obvious after he tells me all adult skis have one screw length...

ran into a similar problem, my heel binding ripped out of the ski since the tech didn't mount properly..wrecked the ski basically. the shop wouldn't do jack all, so I went to the company and they were willing to warranty them for me.

glad it more or less worked out, but if you can't ever get anywhere with the shop, go to the manufacturer and they may able to help you out

Same thong happen to my kung fujas, tey drilled them and after 20 minute the screw make a bump in my base. I call the owner of the shop and i show him what happened. Since i mount them there they find me another pair of kung fujas, even if they were sold out in their 3 shop. They remount them for free and thats it.
