Is the Verizon iPhone a flop?

At the Manhattan Flagship Apple store, their were more employees in the store then people in line. Cold weather? Or maybe not as high as a demand as expected? Reports from all over the country at Apple store and Verizon stores are seeing the samething.

For Verizon yes, not for AT&T. It was the highest presale FOR VERIZON, not the iPhone.

They stopped selling them because the demand was outrageous and they didn't want to be swamped with backorders for months.  This was in no way a flop for Verizon or Apple.

One of my friends works at an Apple store in Connecticut and he said that it's empty. No lines, no craziness, nothing.

they ended the pre order within 10 hours of it going up because there were so many people trying to order them it crashed their servers, that is far from a "flop"

So 500,000 phones crashed the server? AT&T sold 1.5 million the first day the iPhone4 released.

Consider that many of the AT&T customers already had Iphone plans and were satisfied with their previous product.  This is new territory for Verizon, they do not have people already on plans like this.  Stop arguing that this is a flop. Clearly it's not.

Kinda sounds like it is. How does Verizon not have many customers on plans like this? So no one has a Droid? No one has a BB? No one uses a smartphone with a Android OS? Kinda hard to believe. 500,000 ets. phones on a pre order is not many. Empty stores? LOL. Sure, it's no flop. AT&T stores had eight hour lines on launch day. That's not including the Apple stores. just saying.

That's not all that easy at times.

"A couple of hitches... That's an understatement! I have been a Verizon customer for over 10 years. I pre-ordered 3 iPhones on 02/03 via the pre-launch website at 5am CO time. They never sent me an order confirmation via email. Their order status page has been saying "In Process" now ever since 02/03. I have not received the iPhones yet. Now per the article "pre-orders" may not ship until 02/18. I just confirmed this with Verizon customer service over the phone a moment ago. It's true.

WAY TO GO VERIZON! GREAT WAY TO TREAT YOUR CURRENT CUSTOMERS! NEW CUSTOMERS CAN WALK INTO THE STORE THIS MORNING AND HAVE THEIR IPHONES RIGHT NOW, BUT PRE-ORDERS HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL AT LEAST 02/18 NOW!

An alternative? I could go purchase the 3 iPhones right now at the store, BUT the ONLY way to "cancel" the pre-order is to refuse shipment (if/when they ship) then wait who knows how long for Verizon to properly credit my money back? YA RIGHT! Like I trust you do that right correctly when you can't even process a new order in a timely fashion!

I am very disappointed and frustrated by this whole launch and transaction! PRETTY LAME VERIZON!"

Its not a flop.
A. its not the initial launch of the I-Phone like AT&T had
B. Verizon handled it 10 times better than AT&T. Trying to get an IPhone with AT&T when it first came out was a disaster.

No, it's actually really popular, And for people who say AT&T is gonna go out of business because Verison has the iPhone, your really wrong.  AT&T's loss-of-customer rate is lower than any other network.  They have very loyal customers.

Also, the Verison iPhone is much slower with interent.  But it's still awesome

got mine and im so happy. it is def not a flop. The one thing that would be nice is to facetime without wifi but i wouldnt switch to AT&T for it. This thing is dope and now ive got the best of both worlds.

Did you know that the iPhone is what makes the ATT netwrok so bad? I have a BB and have NEVER had a dropped call or slow data. ATT wanted it first because Apple came to ATT first and offered it to them first. Verizon also locks people in with contracts. Just saying.

The only thing that the iphone has thats "better" is the display and its really not that much better. iphones are only cool if you jailbreak them and a droid can basically do everything a jailbroken iphone can do. Id say get a droid X, incredible or droid 2, iphones are way overhyped.

I am going to have to agree with Eheath here.
My mum has an iphone, couple friends have droids, and the Droids are much cooler.

If i was verizon, i would pinch pennies to get the droid and replace my $10 go phone

it's because people aren't switching to verizon yet to get an iphone, they probably already have it on at&t

all existing verizon customers got theirs online on the 3rd. verizon sold out of the preliminary stock within 17 hours which is close to record setting presale sellout. so no, it's not a flop, everyone just already has theirs

from what Ive seen it looks like the iphone is easier to use then the droid, more simple interface blah blah. I like my eris tho just wish it had a flash. Music is prolly a plus with iphone since its an ipod.

Biggest Pro/Con = Droid phones can change batteries 8 hours in to the day when your phone dies. iPhones have to be plugged in and charged. Droid FTMFW.

If you've got to ask, then all of the other pros/cons don't really matter as you probably won't use/make sense of it anyway.

Ya I have the droid Incredible and what I've noticed is the battery wont last a full day with any kind of use, but i think thats kinda average for smart phones.

There isn't a smart phone out there (aside from a few BB) that will make it much longer than a day with decent usage. Battery technology has not quite caught up to processor & screen technology. With Droid phones, att least you can swap out for a second battery....unlike an iphone......who in the hell wants to be tied to a damn charger all of the time?

Its not a flop it obviously sold well whether online or in-stores. I'll bet most of verizons customers are just waiting for their plan to end so they can get it for cheaper. Everybody either has a droid BB or some other smart phone that is suitable to hold out until their next upgrade is available and they can save like a hundred bucks, I'll bet in the long run it outsells the AT&T Iphone

I agree. people who say droids are shit are the people that have never owned one, they have just used a friends, or had minimal experiance with them. And as far as display the new droids that are on the way have a better one that matches the iphone. The htc thunderbolt is rummored to drop within a week, and its verizons first 4g phone and easily matches the iphone. Im all for apple and love their products, but people need to quit being so arrogant and open their eyes. Droids are just as good of phones as the iphone, if not better. especially the new ones that are on the way like the droid X 2 daytona or the droid bionic.

Had a droid, just switched to the iphone. Don't get me wrong, I loved my droid, but whoever says droids are better gtfo. Not only is the display on the iphone crisper, the scrolling is better, the processor is better, multi-tasking is easier etc...Everything is just Smoother than the droid. Yeah sure the droid has customizeable backgrounds and can probably do a FEW things more than the iphone, but when you hold the iphone and you press the buttons you can just feel that its a better all around phone. My droid just felt cheap at times...the lock button felt like it was almost glued on, the volume buttons sometimes wouldnt recognize you pressing them blah blah...All in all they are both great phones, but when it comes down to it, the iphone is what it is....the iphone. The phone that changed everything, the reason why a droid even exists. The reason why everything has been labeled the "iphone killer".

Most people will be upgrading as their contracts expire. Give it the rough duration of a contract there will be SO many iPhones on Verizon. And there will also be people switching to Verizon for the iPhone. I will be switching from my iPhone on At&t to Verizon as soon as my contract expires, because At&t coverage in Utah is garbage. But it's not worth termination fees to me, when I can wait and avoid paying them. Most of the target customers for the iPhone are smart and will do the same instead of paying contract termination fees (>$300 usually).
