What layers do you wear while skiing?

Would be fun to see what the average newschooler uses for their layers.

Top: -0-10c = Wool base layer, Wool medium thick sweater.
-7-20 = Wool base layer, Wool medium sweater, Wool medium thick sweater.
-20-35C = Wool base layer, Wool medium sweater, Wool thick sweater.


Bottom: -0-10C = Wool long underwear thin and fleece pants.
-10-30C = Wool long underwear thick and fleece pants.

Always wool socks.

All merino wool.

Top: -0-10c = Skins top, marino wool thermal, inner jacket, outer jacket.
-7-20 = Skins top, 2x marino wool thermal, vest, inner jacket, outer jacket.
-20-35C = Skins top, 2x marino wool thermal, vest, 2x inner jacket, outer jacket.


Bottom: -0-10C = 3/4 Skins, Wool long underwear thin and non lined pants.
-10-30C = 3/4 skins, 2x Wool long underwear and if it's freezing flannel pajama pants and non lined pants..

Any smartwool ski socks.

Skins as in the compression garments.

if its warm i raise my thug standards and wear tall tees and hoodies. if its below like 15-20 il wear under armor(not that tight stuff more thermal based stuff) and long johns. i wear thin ski socks and sometimes wool socks.

from under to outer

under armor long sleeve cold gear (for winter, in spring i use a reg. underarmor)

6 xl tall t

then i put on my jacket


bottoms:

im a hockey player so i sue my Bauer long jons (its got that under armor feeling)

almost knee high thermal socks (i use thin ones not big wool ones)

then my ski pants

Upper body:

Patagonia synthetic first layer
T-shirt
Fleece
Jacket (comes off > 5 C or so).

Lower body:

Just a pair of shorts or track pants, and ski pants over that.

Feet:

Below -10 C, Burton snowboard socks (the thin ones)
Above -10 C, usually barefoot

because when you're skiing in the winter you don't want to have sleeves

I'm thrifty, so..

0C to -15C, : Joe's stretchy thermal shirt from Superstore (was like $12) and my tall tee, and My homemade sweater over top. Maybe an extra shirt under the tall t if the wind's bitter. Pantswise, Joe's stretchy thermal underwear (also from superstore, was $10) underneath my blue Quiksilver pants. They have HUGE vents.

-15C to THAT'S FUCKING COLD! I switch from bandanna to fleecy bellaclava for face, basically just put on my jacket over top of all my normal layers mentioned above, and I switch to my ventless, fleece lined red Bonfire Pants. My legs don't seem to care about temperature as long as they're in long underwear.

when its cold (as it always is in this hellhole of a state) (15f or colder) Ill wear some sort of long sleeve base layer. then a zip up fleece. then my jacket on top.

for teh bottoms, usually just a pair of pajama pants, or if its super gnarly, then some long underwear type stuff as well.

I wear my merino wool base layers pretty much all year, it regulates the temperature quite well and keeps you nice and comfy. I don't really need much more underneath as my jacket and pants are insulated, if it's sub 20 celsius I'll probably wear a wool sweater as well.  And of course smartwool socks, can't forget those! :)

Every ski day starts with a HH Lifa base layer and either a Burton Tech Flannel or a Middle clothing Bamboo longsleeve thermal.

Cold days I add a Burton Dryride hoodie to the above. Haven't needed more then that at -20*c yet...

Oakley Orbit shell jacket for the outerwear.



Never too hot or cold...the midlayer dryride shit is really nice. I definately recommend it.

i find that how warm i am depends more on my gloves and face cover than on clothing.

Yeah, I find that my upper body really needs to layering, isn't it true that most of the body heat escapes through the head and neck?

My legs / feet generally don't get too cold, and snow pants are pretty insulating to begin with. The feet are trickier, clamping down too hard on boot buckles or snowboard bindings can really mess with your feet.

If It's cold:

Top

If it's warm (10-30):

or (when its at the warmer end)

-Homemade crew
-Saga vest

Bottom
-gym shorts


When its hot (35+):

-Tall tee
-Jacket
or
-Tall tee
-Hoodie/flannel

Bottom
-usually boxers only


Always ski socks, why the fuck would your wear anything else?
And it really depends on the day, there are much more factors than temp, such as wind, if I am skiing park or trees or pow, if it's sunny out, if it's snowing/raining, etc.
