GoPro vs. Contour

I currently own a GoPro and am not 100% satisfied with it , it does have great quality but is annoying how complicated it can become just turning it on i was just wondering if the Contour is any better and which is overall the better camera

I own a contour and i am very pleased with mine the only concer i have about it is that its not "shock" proof and its also not water proof unless you buy a water proof casing. but it puts our great images even in bad lighting over all i would say contour is a great Camera and even better when you shoot at 960 60 fps.

The HD GoPro is better than the Contour, there was a thread on here a few weeks ago with a side by side video comparison.

Pretty sure you mean 720p60p. contour doesn't shoot 60fps at 960p

i like how the contour mounts on helmets much better but i dont think it has a chest harnesss mount like the gopro which is supernice

what i have got from this picture is that we are in somalia. A large man is trying to get his donkey to drink from the polluted murky water while a young boy who works for the man ( gets paid in salt) also trys to move the donkey into the water. The man is wearing no clothes because it is somalia and there are no rules.

Pressing one button to turn something on is pretty complicated. 

I have heard more complaints from contour users.  shaky videos, difficulty editing footage etc.  They are coming out with some really crazy features for the contour tho.  It'll be interesting to see how all the gps stuff ends up working out

i just ordered a contour gps on a complete whim because i got my tax return. upon speaking with some of my very knowledgeable cinematographer buddies, i've heard that the gopro is far better. i don't have any experience with either. the only cameras i've owned in my life (besides a medium format Holga) have been part of my cellphones. I'm sure there are certain aspects of each that are better than the other, but for someone as inexperienced as myself, i seriously doubt that it will matter. they both shoot hd, the both shoot high frame rates, they're both pretty inexpensive. seems to me like a win-win situation.

Contour pros:

Low profile
VERY easy to use
GPS thing is kinda cool
adjustable settings
Live view for smartphone via bluetooth (you can also adjust camera settings from smartphone)
Laser pointer to see where your camera is aimed

GoPro pros:

More features I believe (in terms of photo timers, etc.)
Better looking footage
Wider angle
more mounting options
LCD BacPac

Contour cons:

not wide enough for good POV
hard to do many creative mounts

GoPro cons:

Can be tricky to operate once it is on helmet
Looks goofy
Can't adjust settings

Both are solid though. I love my GoPro, but I would be just as happy with a Contour.

In terms of features (GPS, gravity sensor, LCD-screen, ...), you should also consider the ATC9k.
