American football is pathetic.

So after watching the superbowl with a stopwatch in hand, I came to the conclusion that football is a sorry excuse for a sport. Yes they may hit hard, and it gets hot in all that gear, but when you play for 5 seconds at a time I find that to be a joke. Adding up all of the 4 second plays throughout the entire Superbowl game the total time came out to ~10:53. 10 minutes and 53 seconds of actual play time! What a goddamn joke. I mean honestly 11 minutes of play stretched out to make it seem like it's an hour long? And how long is their damn half time!? Jesus christ.
In real football(soccer) you play for 45 minutes straight of nonstop running and sprinting, 10-15 minute halftime, then another 45 minutes. 90 full minutes of running, sprinting, action in a game.
American football can suck it. Say what you want, I don't give a fuck about what all you football heads have to say about this thread, I won't be coming back to it. Just wanted to put it out there.

That is a rediculous analogy. A car uses less gas at highway speeds because the driveshaft has all ready gained its inertia from the initial acceleration at low revs. Just because Rugby players play for longer dosn't mean they can just "cruise'.

It is still high intensity and after each breakdown of play, the teams reset and make their choices on what tactics they will use on the next play, right there on the spot. Someone mentioned earlier that NFL players have to think on the fly, really? Then why do they need these 5-10 minute breaks where the only person thinking is the coach?

It's fuckin funny that the OP is from the U.S and called soccer football. You know this kid is a wannabe high school scrub who shows off to his friends with a rainbow. but yeah... soccer players and fans main hatred for american foot ball is that the fact it is called foot ball. if it was called.. shovelwicket no one would care... but to the die hard futbol fans... its a abhorrent to call it foot ball and have there sport changed to soccer. so i get it... both sports are truly great in there own right.. if you don't like it don't watch it for fucks sake.. you wont ketch me watching a game of cricket.. now theres a game of true fuckery. as i said before football is a game of chess.. or more like strati-go..

any way basket ball pwns all just saying. way more fun to play and pick up games are easer to do.

whatever. football, futbal, hockey, soccer and basketball are all stupid sports. it's the same premise of getting the ball/object to one side of the court/field and scoring.

this is why baseball rules, it's the only original sport, where you actually have to use strategy.

dont want to be involved in any really discussion on this but i just want to say a couple of things.

There is SO much more going on in an NFL game than any casual fan realizes. The coaches are calling the plays so carefully and strategically that few people could really understand the complexity. Many play callers arent even on the field, theyre up high in a booth with computers and paper - set up to have the best view of the game. even having a simple appreciation for this makes the game really interesting.
ALSO the players in the NFL are supreme athletes; unquestionably the greatest athletes the world has ever seen, and they are being used as pawns in the game.
Its really an amazing thing, the whole deal

anyways, just thought you should have a bit more info.

ps. being able to move (yeah i see them walking a lot of the time) for 90 minutes with only a short break doesnt make a sport good, it just means the athletes are good at moving for 90 minutes.

I've already stated why I think a top-performing NFL player would make a fantastic rugby player but you seem to look right past anything you don't want to hear. Fine by me kid. Carry on.

idc what other countries think about soccer but here in america you sound like a fucken idiot. Football rules and is a awsome sport to watch and play. If you ever play it it actually is pretty tiring and i am in good shape. Soccer is such a pussy sport its redciulous, yes its entertaining sometimes but its full of over dramatic faggots. The fact they fake injuries is rediculous.

1. You said it yourself, the players are like pawns. As in, not using their own brains, but getting orders from coaches etc. I hate to compare rugby to nfl again, but i have to. rugby players have to think on their feet non stop for 80 mins, with the only external advice being received at the short break that is half time.

Hey dumbass,

Thats a goal in football too, and if you think that any of these guys couldn't learn a new technique you are wrong. It would be EASY for any of these athletes to learn how to play either sport. Stop putting your sport on a fucking pedestal and think about what your are saying. At this level of athleticism ANY of them could play either sport. Its not hard to train for stamina OR strength. If you have ever had an intense football practice you would know that they could easily play 80 minutes of rugby.

He's probably talking about class 1 competitive level, ODP (olympic development program) at the state regional or national level, possibly college, possibly semi-pro and pro. I've been at the semi-pro level and can tell you that soccer is quite physical. I fuckin despise ice baths cuz I had to use it so often. And high school soccer is a joke. Noone recruits from high school soccer like they do in high school football. High school soccer was like a vacation from the real shit that went on all year long. The recruiting all goes down in coaches showcase tournaments held in places like dallas, orlando, san diego. So what I am saying is that high school soccer is in no way shape or form a high level of soccer. thats cool you play football and still respect soccer.

i personally prefer real futbol and usually jump on into the debate but.........

why bother arguing over which sport is better when they are completely different sports?! american football athletes are really incredible athletes designed for short bursts on activity (for the most part) and futbol players are the opposite. i could go on and on but i don't care to since it is useless

hokay. so. after skimming this thread and being bored on a monday night im gonna say something. there are so many dumb arrogant posts that are all defending "their sport." no one sport is better than the other. yea im a huge football fan. i also play soccer (at a low high school level but i still like playing) could an average professional soccer played play football without years of training? no. could an average pro football player play soccer without years of training? no. football players would get gassed quick, and wouldnt have the foot skills to compete at all. but soccer players would die in a football game. theres no way their body could handle getting hit that hard that consistently and they would have no idea what theyre doing. and my god. that bukkake kid arguing that rugby is far more demanding and tougher than football. shut the fuck up. yes rugby players dont use pads, but they also tackle by wrapping up, not by trying to hit the other player as hard and fast as possible. football players dont think? are you that arrogant? but i guess because every play happens the exact same way youre probably right. and the coach does basically all the thinking. the players do exactly whatever play the coach draws up every single time. and its only ever one play so its not like they have to memorize tons of schemes, coverages, blocking assignments, and routes. and quarterbacks are the worst because theyre dumb and pussies because they dont hit. im not saying that football is better. its different. rugby players are tough as fuck and definitely better endurance-wise. football players are also tough as fuck and much more focused on explosiveness and quick movements. and on another note whoever said that football players are the greatest athletes in the world or whatever, please go die

Ive played both football and rugby, and i can say that I personally have taken harder hits from shitty teams in football than i did playing one of the best teams in the nation in rugby (high school that is).. Also I am EXTREMELY confident that some of the more athletic NFL players could easily hang with the pace of the game.. There is A LOT more breaks than what you soccer/rugby players are making it out to be

americans tend to have better athletic talent because we have a massive population who are ALL exposed to the importance of sports from a young age.

If rugby was the main sport in america, we would dominate. If soccer was, again we would dominate. Its just that our top three sports(baseball, football, basketball), no one else in the world really plays them(basketball is getting more popular).

But football is essentially doing 1 rep max power cleans, while soccer is doing a cardio workout. Both are very hard, but at the end of the day, you are more physically tired from the power cleaning.

Ok so lets try sum this up.

Rugby Football and Soccer both take amazing athletic ability to play at the top level.

But what you can agree on is what has more action, truth is they all have heaps of down time. I watch all 3 sports and I can honestly say this.

-Rugby: Fuckloads of time is spent setting up lineouts and rucks. An ass load more time is spent setting up the backline or waiting for the ball to appear out of mauls.

-Soccer: Fuckloads of time is spent with boring as shit passing in the mid field trying to force the defence to make a mistake.

-Football: Fuckloads of time is spent in the huddle deciding the next play with the clock off, probably more then rugby or soccer BUT Rugby and soccer are only interesting once the ball is deep in either teams territory where as I personally find every down in football exciting as watching my team getting the first down is exciting as my team getting a try in rugby.

NOW

Hardest hitting Rugby or Football, no pads vs pads. I see lots of you have forgotten about a sport with way bigger hits then rugby that plays at a faster pace and still has no pads. Rugby league. Every League player is built like a prop (big and buff) with the ball skills or a first five. I cease to make a comment on which sport hits bigger but I will leave this here

Good for you. I have spent the last two months visiting Universities on recruiting trips for football and am currently in the process of choosing which scholarship offer I am going to accept. I play a "high level" of football yet don't choose to post things that make me look like an arrogant douche bag like yourself. Get over yourself and open your mind. Personally I believe both sports are awesome and respect those who play either.
