'In the park' vibes/energy

Has anyone ever noticed the tenseness, or the negative vibes that come from taking a ride in the park? It's almost as if you can't talk to anyone who isn't in your crew without being looked upon as an outcast.

Were all at the mountain and in the park for the same reason-because we love to ski, and I mean when I meet someone who says their a big skier then I automatically know their gonna be a cool person. I think it would be cool if everyone was just more open/chill. I have no idea how one would solve this but what are your guy's thoughts

yeah i completely agree, its because everyone is trying to out do everyone else and it makes people tense, even when im lapping by myself theres always that one kid who has to say a mean remark for no apparent reason but to be a douche

ya it's weird for some reason i always get a really tense mean vibe from the park, like everythings a competition. then again theres always like one kid that just says what's up and is cool

the whole "clique" thing is not the case at my mountain. i will hang out with people from 2-3 different grades from 2-3 different schools. i have like 3 different crews lol. and the vibe i get from my park is pretty good, i basically know everybody though so that could be why. small EC mountain FTW!

100% true. There are those kids that approach you and are really nice, and those those kids that hide behind their facemasks and are dicks to anyone else that look like they might be park skiers. I actually notice it all the time.

I get that at pats, but not at loon. I'll chat with some random guys every now and then, and when I complement somebody on a trick or ask about speed for the jump line, they're receptive and helpful. Hell, a kid I met yesterday is gonna teach me corks next weekend.

no one ever got pissed when someone else cheered them doing something sick. spread some love in the world and watch the world give you some back.

i dont get that feeling at all. when i was on the EC and now out west ive always been able to talk to almost anyone in the park with a smile and just start chattin it up. as long as your nice and give people some respect i would never expect it to be a problem

I agree completely but it sort of takes away from the experience if kids are all assholes to each other if you know what I mean. I also agree to the guy above who was talking about kids being too competitive against each other when it's not even about who's better in the first place.

eh, from what I've seen most kids get standoffish when they ride in a "crew" because it becomes about image. But even so, most are pretty nice, especially to others who are nice or ride the area often. The most I usually seen is some mean muggin from behind a bandanna, but that aint shit. One solution is to not ride in "crews." Shit, I personally can barely handle skiing with more than like 2 or 3 others, which is really beneficial for taking the occasional lap or laps with some people you sort of know or may not. People do what they do, but in the end it isn't really all that bad at all. But still... fuck cliques.

Everyone is nice to everyone at my hill, and we have a pretty big park scene.

Unless you're annoying or something, but that's not cliquey, that's just you having a shitty personality.

grow a pair and have fun competing. its natural and helps progression.

Or dont, stay away from that vibe and do your own thing. you dont have to do whatever everyone else is doing.


i personally love trying to one up my friends because i am extremely competitive and thats the way that i push myself.

i see what ur saying, but most people that are actually good are cool about u and give good pointers.

the other day after my friends left i was lapping alone, i went up the lift with some kids and they were reely nice, and amazing skiers too were giving me pointers and even asked if i wanted to ski with them.

some cocky assholes who think there good, but suck would do basicly the opposite

I've found that the more mainstream mtns are like the suburbs, and the smaller, less popular ones are like the ghetto. this is on the east btw

...I'm all for being competitive but I don't see laps in the park as a competition. And I also don't care what other people do, I'm giving my opinion about why kids may be dicks to people as the OP is asking.

Ya, it's weird.

I ski at two mountains, Sugarbush and Killington.

Whenever I go to Killington and I'm lappin the park I always feel as though I have to do something sick every single hit or people are going to laugh at me or something....it's super negative there, and I'm not sure why.

But then I go to Kilington and the vibes are mad chill, all the kids are fairly nice to each other and there's no real competition vibe going on.

Strange for sure.

you might be miscontruing them haveing fun competing with them being dicks. Its like the beer pong mentality. i talk hella shit to strangers and am rediculously cocky while playing them, but its all fun and games. they know it, and i know it, its all in fun.


but then again maybe not where you ride, as i havnt seen what your eyes have...


i personally think that some people try to define themselves as skiers, and when someone they dont know comes along and is good they get jealous. or someone bad comes along and they make fun of them because it makes themselves feel like they are better than them.

it seems like that the douchiest (word?) people in the park are usually younger kids that are extremely bad at skiing or snowboarding, usually the older guys are pretty cool and are just there to have fun, i love getting yelled at from the lifts are falling off a rail or something and then watching the kids roll over the lips of jumps

Yeah really depends, some people don't like talking to people outside of their group and by no means is that wrong. Some people though are just all around friendly and keep the vibe good, but then you got kids who won't crack a smile. People are different just associate yourself with the people you want to be with. Fuck the ones who don't want talk they are missing out.

haha yea so true...the other weekend i was skiing at stratton just lapping the park for a bit and this one random snowboarder who is just sitting in the middle of the run in my way goes as i ski by him....

"ill take a crap on your fucken face"....completely unecasary pissed me off so much.Needless to say next run as he was sitting doing nothing i sprayed the shit out of him

I jus don't like the shiit people always tend to scream from the lift cuz they're of course safe up there...it dosent bother me too much but there is no need for it,,...especially when it tries to ruin a +vibe. But I'll respect anyone who's in the park trying to progress and have fun,,cuz im trying to do the same.

funny i was just talking about this to my friend. the one resort, holiday valley has such a negative and unfriendly vibe compared to kissing bridge, our home mountain. kb is such a relaxed, more tight knit community compared to hv.

It doesn't really seem tense, I just don't really associate with anyone, maybe that's my problem thought. In the spring it's definitely different. I talk to tons of people in the spring and everyone is in a good mood.

yea i def feel this way. especially when i see kids in saga or fd or jiberish. i wear much less nice stuff than them but a lot of the time im better than them. Everyones kinda is uncomfortable around everyone, but they will sometimes act agressive to deal with it, and this creates a huge tension.

i think it's cause kids who aren't great are scared to let loose in front of all the cool kids, some of whom are stuck up cause they actually are better than everyone else, but the kids who don't want to make fools of themselves come of as aloof and obnoxious.

its mostly because everyone thinks they're pro as shit and better than you instead of having fun sliding down a hill dressed like a gang of inner city blacks. if someone doesn't want to socialize then ill let them stay in their no-friends personal dew tour training mode

My mountain (tremblant) isn't like that at all. Of course there some people who won't talk to anyone (like me when i'm listening to music) but generally people are pretty nice.
