Someone said it before, but yes... an easy to eat and lighter meal is a great idea. You don't want something that makes you look retarded when you eat (or at least if I'm out to eat with someone I hate looking retarded eating) and you don't want something that's going to weigh you down. Lots of bright-colored, fresh vegetables will make anything look good. Do most of your prep work ahead of time, too, so you aren't frazzled and rushed the day of. This also gives you time and room for error.
If you want to start with a salad, my favorite is spinach, red onion, walnuts, cranberries, and feta cheese with some sort of vinaigrette. Makes you look good and is super easy.
