WOMEN Slopestyle has ZERO chance to make it into the Olympics

The fact is these women are not Olympic grade athletes and are not showing Olympic grade talent in the slope style.

I was going to drop this rant but then these women showed up on my TV at 12midnight as I was scanning the channels, and what do I see 360's and garbage 540's.

There are female aerialists that can do triples. They work out in the off season and water ramp. Clearly these athletes do not, and if they do, its half ass or not hard enough or else they  would be bringing more to the table and wouldn't be a decade behind the men.

What have these competitors been doing all summer. Clearly they have been on the beach and not training like FIS or Olympic athletes do.

Because if you were training you'd at least bring rodeos, corks and some other gear to the table off 2 or 3 hits, not to mention you would be able to do switch corks or switch inverts. Dont even mention doubles.

There is zero possibility they will let the women slope style into the Olympics, ABSOLUTELY ZERO

I just saw a bunch of 360's and 180's in these girls nationally televised broadcast runs on VS tv.  That is unacceptable for national exposure.

 Its like putting a highschool junior varsity basketball game on ESPN in the middle of a CELTICS game.

I see adolescent immature young women singing crack hip hop garbage to the camera when they finish their run, not stone faced, focused international competitors competing for the pride of their country.

Olympic competitors are athletic machines not some G swagger ass immature girls. USA better be breeding some sleeper competitors and keeping it low, because this is not going to cut it.

but thats besides the point, the point is that there is a lack of strive to progress. if women keep saying "o, i only need to do this trick that ive done a thousand times to win, no big deal" when is the progression gonna happen?

we need more sponsors too. I've been to comps that have 2 girls competing, it's sad. Especially when you compare it to boarding, where some comps are girls only, with 10,000$ purses? what do we have in the way of comps?!
there are some killer girls out there who would definitely progress the sport though.

ok great, how do you expect more women to get involved? what would make slopestyle more appealing to someone whos never tried skiing before when the trick are similiar technicality wise to womens mogul skiing? someone needs to step up and lead the progression, you cant just sit back and wait for it to happen.

In my view, there are two main factorsholding women back.

1. Attitude

2. Lack of progressive competitions

1. Attitude: People are always saying women need toprogress, but very few girls are actually progressing not because of lack ofskill or strength or all the bull shit. It’s all attitude. Example: When skiingdown to the chair lift, how many girls throw 3s off of cat-tracts or snowgunjumps? How many do 3s off curbs or stairs when walking around. Girls trainhard, but they don’t goof off like guys do. I believe in the 10,000 hour ruleand right now girls don’t have the numbers. They try to progress by hittingbigger jumps and doing hard trick. They end up getting hurt and have everyreason to be scared. Doing one hundred 3s, 5s, and 7s, off of a 25 foot table makesdoing a 3s, 5s, 7s off a 40 foot jump easier, and so on. If you don’t jump alot you won’t get better and right now a lot of girls (**not all girls) makeany number of excuses and don’t do the numbers to progress. Go to the waterramps; hit lots of little jumps and rail. Put in the work to progress, don’tjust say you are a girl and less talented or weaker. Believe in yourself andput in the hard to work so you canshow it.

2. Lack of progressive competitions: How do youqualify for the X-games? How do you qualify for the Dew Tour? How do you getknown as a girl?

The step from amateur girl to pro girl seemstrickier than it does for guys (simmer down, I don’t mean talent wise butopportunity wise). Other than queens cup, aspen open and now 9-queens, I personallydon’t know of any amateur comps that really allow women to turn pro. Superunknown,KOS, Salomonjib academy, and Gatorade Free Flow have help discovered some of today’s toppros, but how many of them are girls? The current pros need to be pushed, buthow are they pushed if the up-and-coming, hard working, progressing girls can’tenter the scene. Look at Brita, Devin, and Jess start to up the level. Don’t drop girls’ comps because of lackof talent, go out and find the talent that deserves to be there.

op made a good point about womens aerials...there are female aerialists that are throwing triples in comps...how much would it suck to be a female aerialist, win a gold medal at the olympics by throwing a triple of some sort and have some freeskier chick win a gold medal in slopestyle by throwing a 720 as her biggest trick?

Honestly, I am admittedly a pretty big hater on women's skiing. But you made an excellent point about lack of opportunity as far as women's contests etc. I really think that as the talent level of female skiing increases (which it HAS to)the amount of opportunities for your average girl park rat will increase. But if the talent level doesn't increase, women's skiing will continue to be ignored

I'm not giving the girls excuses, if they had the same amount of athletes as the males they should be a lot better, but they don't.

It's a matter of time, look how long have women been doing slope, give'em time to progress their skiing and you'll see they'll be throwing down some good moves and style , look at the top women on the tour at this time , gurls like Turski,Segal, Lamarre,Logan, Battersby, Herman, they train year round, so as I say it's just a matter of time and more women will get into it.

These threads are always characterized by comparisons that don't cross over: women's tricks vs men's tricks, aerials vs. slope, evolutionary design of men vs women. Lots of people that have commented here  are comparing these things, and making it a competition, as if this is somehow better for "the sport."

But really, who gets to decide what happens to "the sport"? And more importantly, why the fuck do you care about nationally televised coverage? No matter what happens on TV, you'll still head out the next weekend with your friends and go slide down a hill. You'll still go hit urban after school. You'll still wake up with dreams of that three foot dump, and all these things are possible whether you're male or female. "The sport" isn't some thing that industry types, television networks, or resort operators get to decide. "The sport" is shaped by every time someone clicks in on skis, be that you or me, female or male. We should rejoice that we each have the opportunity to shape our own skiing and grow together with the common bond of being able to do WHAT WE WANT.

And instead, people come on NS bitching about how someone is better than someone else. It's FREESKIING. Free. Not regimented. Not controlled. Not subject to your ignorant sexism that only understands skiing by the tricks that are thrown in competition or by who gets coverage or who's on this ski company today.

The biggest problem in skiing is that we have people who, to shore up their own insecurities, decide to shit on what someone else is up to. We can either mutually respect each other, grow together from where we're all at, which is obviously different. Or we can tear each other down as a whole and end up frustrated and unsure. If you subscribe to the latter view, YOU are you the one holding back skiing.

 Leave the sexism and trendwhoring at home. Quit caring about things that don't actually affect you, and go shape "the sport" for yourself by clicking in and having fun, which is the point, last time I checked.

Oh, and I hope all you "get in the kitchen" commentators have fun fapping it for the rest of your lives, because you certainly don't deserve the respect or love of a beautiful woman.

I don't think it is about the money so much as the competition. As she mentioned earlier, the girls will throw down way harder on a daily basis then they tend to do in competition. When you are in a competition, you are in the competition to WIN not to throw some big new trick that you likely won't land. We regularly see the men who hold off in qualifiers, putting down a run they know they can land and will get them into finals. Even in finals they will often start with a safety run that they are confident they can put to their feet before pushing it so that they can try and win. With the women it is no different, they just can take it a little further because whereas the men basically have to put down the run of their life to win, their safety is often enough. You see it in other sports too - the miracle mile occured in track because Bannister and Landy were even throughout the race and had to give it absolutely everything they had to try and win.
There is no question about whether or not these women train everyday and give skiing their everything, but until there is more competition in the competitions we won't be seeing the evidence of it.

If ANY girl, not matter what age, background, etc. posted an edit that showed she could throw 10s, some right side stuff, corks, a dub or two, and a bunch of rail tricks (pretty much any AM dude's season edit that we see tons of every year), ANY SKI SPONSOR would pretty much instantly put her on the "pro" team.

Seriously, if any girl could compete with AM guys, she wouldn't even need to compete to stay sponsored.

Women skiing (and boarding) will never be comparable to men's skiing. Nor should it. But if it is going to be a global competitive level, then it needs to be something more than it is, and it needs to stop accepting and defending mediocrity.

When looking at the summer Olympic Games, some of the most popular events for viewers are things like gymnastics, volleyball, and swimming. Two of those take the cake when the women are out, even though they do not compete to the same level as the guys. But that is fine. There is a perceivable and acceptable level of professionalism and exceptional athletics even in gymnastics, or any other filed I mentioned. When watching women's skiing, in my mind, I see mediocrity. I see sloppy and unrefined. If I saw the same thing in the park on a casual day, that would be sick because there are no expectations or restrictions, but we're talking about marquee events, with massive purses and airtime. The Olympics are a whole different level that trump x-games, dew tour, etc. And to compete in the Olympics should be a privilege, not a right or incentive.

The creator of this thread is super ignorant. I understand the point that a lot of people feel women's skiing should have progressed further than it has, but to say that it has no chance of getting into the olympics is completely wrong.

Also, the comparison against female aerialists is also fairly flawed. Just because an aerialist can do triples, doesn't mean that female slope competitors should be doing them on course. It also doesn't mean that they don't train, water ramp, and work out in the off season.

I have the pleasure of working with and knowing a lot of these athletes, and I can tell you that the female competitors, on average, have a better work ethic in the gym and off season than most of the male competitors.

There are literally almost no actual women freeskiers. Compared to the male population, think about how many girls are actually even utilizing twin tips in the park. They're pussies. Pun extremely intended. Not saying there aren't girls who shred, the judgment is just based on a lesser standard.. Which no one can disagree with. It's societies fault technically, but either way they still suck. Why do you think skateboarding doesnt even translate to girls unless they're butch lesbian types with excess testosterone?.. and even then they still suck.

I guess you can assume girls will just progress as the sport grows and more girls actually ski. That 9 year old already has x games gold claimed for the next 15 years..

Sorry, I admired her greatly back in 2004(rodeo 7 anyone?) and i admire her WORK with certain aspect of the sport.

Ski jumping is one of the original winter sports. It is the most watched sport on television in central europe. The highest paid red bull athlete in the world is a ski jumper. It is not a dying sport at all, you just have no idea what you are talking about.

Fergie hit the nail on the head here. It would be an absolute travesty if the girls were left out, but thankfuly, it's not going to happen.

The funny part about this is, if it was announced that men's skiing slopestyle was in, but women's was left out, all of you hating on the girls would instantly turn on a dime and scream bloody murder, and say it's bad for our sport...and rightfully so.
