I'm going on a ski trip (Revelstoke) in 9 days, and I need advice on how to pack my shit for the airport. I'm brigning my skis but i'm afraid that they will get damaged on the airplace. Any tips on how to pack???
be sure to pack your essential gear (boots helmet gogs outerwear and 1 change of clothes) in your carry on bag. This is to ensure that if they looses your luggage you are not fucked for 3 days while they try and find it.
get a decently padded ski bag, pack your snowpants, soft clothes around the tips and bindings. Zip the bag up tight, take your essential stuff on your carry on and you are good to go. I've flown multiple times and never had my gear damaged or lost. I fly west jet.
I have been flying to go skiing at least once a year for 12 years and have always put my skis and poles in an unpadded ski bag and they are fine. skis take a lot more abuse on your feet than on an airplane. also, if you have to wait in an airport for a while, its best to have a minimal amount of stuff to carry around with you, and airlines have gotten alot more reliable over the last few years and i don't wanna be carrying around ski boots in an airport, so i just check them, but if you don't trust checking them than bring them and ask at the gate if you can skycheck them and they will put them in the luggage compartment then you collect them when you land, way better than dealing with them on the plane.
Year where your ski coat on the plane and bring a boot bag as carry on with the essentials: Boots, Goggles, Helmet, Ski Clothes, Gloves. Then if they lose your ski's and shit you can at least rent skis and go for the day. Happened to us in Whistler, but our skis ended up at the hotel at 3 in the morning. Still it was a scare.
definitely bring your boots and any essentials with you and store them overhead. Anything else you can pack in your ski bag to help pad the tips/tails/bindings.
Just pack as much clothing as you can around your skis in your ski bag...
But take your boots as carry on. Because wherever you are going there will probably be some decent demo skis you can rent, but there is nothing worse than ending up in rental boots.
i went to and from colorado last week and tons of people had their ski boots with them on the plane as well as a backpack. believe it's 1 personal item and one carry on. they put them in the overhead bin.
when they weigh your ski bag put it between your knees and squeeze and lift a little to take off weight. also, you can take stuff out then put it bak in if they have you move your bag to the odd shaped bag check in after they weigh it
