Okay, so I would leave the news reporting to Gnartron, however, after seeing this, I cant wait for support to come. Please visit this website (http://openmedia.ca/meter) and just fill out the little form below. I don't know about you, but I would not just sit idly by while something this important is under debate.

"Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are about to impose usage-based billing on YOU.

This means we're looking at a future where ISPs will charge per byte, the way they do with smart phones. If we allow this to happen Canadians will have no choice but to pay MUCH more for less Internet. Big Telecom companies are obviously trying to gouge consumers, control the Internet market, and ensure that consumers continue to subscribe to their television services.

These Big Telecom companies are forcing small competing ISPs to adopt the same pricing scheme, so that we have no choice but to pay these punitive fees.

This will crush innovative services, Canada's digital competitiveness, and your wallet.

We urgently need to send a clear message to Ottawa, saying that we won't stand by while some of the most profitable companies in the country indiscriminately add new fees to our Internet bills. Enough is enough. "

(my internet-service at college is capped at 4gig and home internet is 20gig /month ) it sucks big time, exceeding college bandwidth = no more internet, exceeding home internet bandwidth = warning + big bill !

Until your contract expires.... All major US carriers are already on the way preparing for plans that offer limited amounts of data with peak limits in which you are charged by the mb once you exceed it. Customers circumnavigating their minutes with VoIP is another reason why this is going to happen. Some people may be grandfathered in for a few years, but eventually this is what it will come to in a few years.

wow, so you're hating on americans because they're not aware of a billing system that's not in use in our country? i didn't know that it was common to know how internet providers billed in other countries, you fucking idiot. and no i doubt this will happen in america for internet because its business suicide with the competition. the only way it could is if the companies grouped together to all apply this system at once. typical stereotyping, hockey-loving, too-trusting-to-lock-his-own-door, stupid candian. The good news is, this won't actually happen.  There are too many profitable advertisements (or they pay way too much) for their service on the internet.  You want to charge a bunch for the internet- say goodbye to everyone on the internet.  It doesn't matter if internet service providers "are about to impose usage-based billing on YOU".  Everyones just gonna say fuck off and peace.  Corporations that have 'serious' buisness to do with the internet will be pissed, and this damn near free internet will reappear out of aladdin's magic lamp.  End AMERICAN rant.

Also, explain why you think EVERYONE with say fuck off? If anything, people that can afford it, now have access to more information/convenience than people that can't afford it. Why wouldnt they fucking want that advantage?

If I suddenly made bank, I am pretty sure most of us would go "ha ha fuck you! I can pay the fee and now watch all the ski edits I want" and not be to concerned with the others that CANT afford to view them. But, thats just my opinion.

Let me explain this to you without trying to be a pompous american ass.  There is way too much business related usage for this to happen.  A lot of which comes from american companies, or companies with major hubs in New York-aka not american companies but they realize NYSE rules all and therefore have huge amounts invested in america and the internet as a whole.  If shit does indeed hit the fan, you better fucking believe everyone will bail.  There is no reason that a substitute will not appear, and the internets will become the typewriter.

And the reason people won't say "ha ha fuck you! I can pay the fee and now watch all the ski edits I want" is because (1) a lot of people wouldn't pay a bunch to watch ski edits (ya, no shit kind of argument), (2) business/what I assume you are talking about has other ways of accessing information and (3) people won't put up with it, plain and simple.  It might work in other countries, but I really don't see the typical consumer pissing away dollars on the internet typing meaningless posts like this to enrage others (say what?).  Everyone can afford to read a book, but the information is made easier to access for 'free' on the internet.  Who says people won't learn how to read again?  The only meaningful thing the internet provides is second to second information, and shit already published in books/journals.

I guess I personally dont put blind faith into companies & corporations. I really cant see them acting "with the people" and saying fuck it, and moving to an alternative. History sadly sort of proves this. I would piss my pants with excitement, if a major corporation made a move like this for the people. I have just lost faith i guess....sorta sad.

One last thing, books are great. I love them & read as much as possible. But, not all information(good/bad/ugly/fake everything internet entails) is published in a book. And the good books cost good money(if you'd like to own it). I have a list I would love to own someday, shits fucking expensive haha.

Also, something like the Egyptian revolution that is currently happening. I personally believe it to be very hard to show the fear & terror & emotions entirely through literature. Audio & animated visuals are VERY important to the truth in the story.

I personally have met many contacts & friends through newschoolers. Even slept on some floors while traveling/skiing. Got to meet some small ski business owners on here a few years ago, and screen printed up team bandannas for em(I live in Pittsburgh, I would NEVER have that chance here), currently seen in some rad edits.


Now, say I am "claiming" or whatever. Kinda just trying to prove a point, and I can only go by my personal experiences. But to me, the internet is much more then just second to second information & shit already published in book & journals.
