Salomon CS shell molding

not the best idea to try it at home. your shop should have a heat gun and the boot-fitter there can heat up one shell at a time for you.

I have put cs boots on heat stacks before, but that doesnt really seem to do anything to the shell, just the liners.  We do have a heat gun, but where and how long should i heat it up?

you're right, a normal heat stack won't do anything to the Kaprolene insert. But the heat gun can and will soften the inserts and the shell when done carefully. Your boot-fitter just has to keep an eye on the plastic and keep the heat gun moving. I would heat the liners separately from the shells, then put everything back together and stand in them as if you were doing a liner mold (don't walk around). It's kind of ghetto, but it will do the trick for you if you don't have access to the correct oven.

For how expensive the boots are I may just contact Salomon and find out who has the proper oven, or best technique to doing it.  I imagine the oven is similar to baking hockey skates in a sense, but I have not actually seen the CS shell oven.

Heat gun works great, especially with the CS shells when you want to focus on a specific area. You could do all the areas, as long as the bootfitter was careful. Laser thermometer is key.

You don't "need" to mold the shells unless your foot is too wide for the shell. I didn't mold my X3 shells because they're fine as-is.

The Salomon oven is the same as the 32 or Intuition ones though, so that could be used if your shop has that in their snowboard department or whatever.
