Here we go.....alright kids, time for a quick(i hope) history lesson. Punk rock was born in 1974, when the Ramones, a foursome from New York, not England, played their first show at the CBGB club. The Ramones were forme because they felt that RocknRoll had lost its edge, and stadium rock was starting to take over. They played music loud, and fast, with no solos(half out of a lack of talent and half out of the speed of the songs). At the Ramones first gig, and correct me if I'm wrong, was the soon to be manager of the Sex Pistols. The owner of a sex fetish shop, or whatever you wanna call it, gathered a bunch of kids that hung out there fairly often, and formed them into the Sex Pistols. The lead singer, who would be known to the world as Johnny Rotten, was an asshole, who hated everything. Problems between the band and their bassist, Glen Matlock, occured, so he was kicked out and rplaced by the most famous and definitive punk of all time, Sid Vicious. Sid could never really play bass. The Sex Pistols gained notoriety, and punk became known to the world. Punk was about fast music, giving the middle finger to the mainstream, and looking down upon authority. In the late seventies though, Punk itself began to lose its edge, and Punks began to turn towards a new type of music: Hardcore. Hardcore is probably the truest kind of Punk out there. Hardcore's rallying cry was loud fast rules! Bad Brains is considered by many to be the very first hardcore band out there, although theres debate about it. But Bad Brains could never match the legacy of the Hardcore kings, Black Flag. Hardcore shows were violent, people getting injured often, and sometimes, killed. Moshing, or slamdancing had been born. Then, in the mid-80s, punk and hardcore faded into a small sub-genre, not to be noticed by the mainstream again ( no real punk anyway). Back in the day, you would walk down the street with spiky neon hair, bondage pants, and a leather jacket, and you would get beat. Cops showed up at shows for no reason, shutting them down, and often beating the kids. Riots were normal at concerts. These days, punk has lost it's edge. It's not dangerous anymore. There are still a few hardcore punks out there, who can be seen walking around in the same styles worn by punks back then. The dominant form of punk these days, if you ask me, is street punk and Oi!, which just might be the truest forms of punk today. Now that this history lesson is no longer short, I'll leave you with a list of key punk bands.

The Sex Pistols
The Misfits

I'll leave this list short, but A grand post like this needs a little something extra: a song.

Before 1954, when the United States was in the middle of the Cold War, the pledge did not include a reference to God. In adding it, members of Congress said they wanted to set the United States apart from 'godless communists.'
