I decided to do track senior year after playing soccer all four years (my high school played soccer in the fall). I knew I wasn't going to dominate in anything, but have always had good stamina from playing soccer my whole life so I decided to do distance. Ended up switching off between doing the 800 and the mile at meets and finished middle of the pack in the beginning of the season, and by the end of the season I was starting to place in races.
I did track more for the social aspect, but I'm also a competitive person so I forced myself to work hard because it really annoyed me finishing middle of the pack in the beginning of the season. But distance is fun because while you do do some hard training exercises you also have those days where you go for a "town run" type of thing and get to socialize with your friends during the run.
