first off:
'jesus created adam and eve , not adam and steve, gay marrigies are wrong.'
JESUS didn't create anyone. Perhaps you need to reread your bible.
Also, a relevant article I just wrote for my website
WHY?!?! Why why why why why why???? I don't understand! There's no argument for it!!! Other than the religious argument, or that it's 'just plain unnatural,' there's no rational reason to do this!!! And there's plenty of reasons NOT to!
1. The Republicans are supposed to be anti-government! They want fewer federal departments, fewer public programs, and FEWER REGULATIONS. Telling people just who they can and cannot marry seems like a pretty big REGULATION to me!
2. This would be the first amendment to the U.S. Constitution EVER DESIGNED TO TAKE RIGHTS AWAY, instead of giving them to people. This sets a dangerous precedent, people! ANYONE—left, right, or center—should be able to see that!
3. It's been spearheaded by a fanatical (and, to use a term she favored for certain choice judges, 'activist') congresswoman from my own state, named Marilyn Musgrave. She has DEVOTED her political career to getting this issue taken care of to her satisfaction. Why she's so obsessed with the issue of gay marriage... I'll leave that for you to infer (not that there's anything wrong with that).
4. We have this little thing in this country called THE FIRST AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA which says that government and religion to be kept separate.
5. WHY?!?!?!
I think the only solution (and I think this is perfectly viable) is to abolish marriage—ALL marriage—in the eyes of the government. Let's make it so whether you're gay or straight, the only thing you can get is a nationally recognized civil union. Then you can go to whatever religious organization you are affiliated with in order to get married, depending on whether they let you (and I think the Unitarian Universalists should take a bold stand: Absolutely NO heterosexual marriages—wouldn't that be great?). See, the word 'marriage' is just confusing things, since a religious marriage is a completely different thing from a legal marriage. For example: I am (no shit) an ordained minister. I can, in the eyes of god and the Christian Church, marry people. However, that doesn't mean they can file jointly on their income tax form or take advantage of spousal benefits on their health insurance. For that, they would have to go down to the courthouse and get a marriage certificate (or, under my plan, certificate of civil union).
Let's leave marriage to the churches, and we can make sure that gays and straights are treated equally in this country. And that's what everyone wants, right? Don't you want equality for all, Marilyn Musgrave?
