A few people have told my that for a period of time, people were jumping off that rock weekly and that a bunch of people have committed suicide off of that rock. Is that true or just BS? It would just be crazy driving by a place where a bunch of people have killed themselves...Idk I guess I'm just curious.
don't know if its the same one but found this with a google search.
SUICIDE ROCK & THE RESERVOIR One of the foremost sights that met
the eye of the early travelers when they reached the mouth of Parley's
canyon before entering into the Valley of the Great Salt Lake, was a
huge mass of red rock which stood in the middle of the mouth of the
canyon. It consisted mainly of red sandstone and had stood as a
sentinel for centuries. For hundreds of years it stood as a watch tower
for the Indians until, as the story goes, an Indian maiden, upon
learning of the death of her brave, leaped from the top to her death on
the rocks below giving it the name of Suicide Rock. Now it is a
bill-board for the youth who dare climb its heights with a paint brush
or spray can
I live right near that. Some super fun shit in that gully thing including the infamous "shoot the tube" aka the urban waterslide. So fucking dope but cold as fuck due to the mountain water run off that includes in it.
idk about the suicieds but i do know if you look at the top the crest will change every now and again, fraternitys haze people and have them paint it with that fraternitys crest
I have lived in SLC my whole life and have never shot the tube. I really need too. I was going to but then some kid died a couple days before were going and the crew i was with didn't want to do it anymore.
yeah ive tagged it a few times and there is literally 8 inches of spray paint on the rock...you can peel it off and such its pretty crazy...just decades of paint piled up
If you shoot the tube, make sure to use a sled. I've heard stories of people leaving nails in the bottom of the culverts. Could be stories, but never hurts to be safe.
