Could the x games do better?

Watching the slopestyle and big air finals were kind of disappointing. I wasnt disappointed by the riders but in the events themselves. In regards the slope style final you have many factors for deciding a time slot each final will be at. With only a few riders being able to complete their runs in their 3rd attempt due to lighting I kind of felt let down by this oversight. It was obvious watching the riders doing their runs in big air that the jump wasn't big enough for the tricks that the announcers were speculating about. If they were aware these tricks were possible wouldn't it make sense to construct a jump that would be large enough to allow it to be possible. Any thoughts

yeah i thought that, too. the speed carried shitty through slope as well. saw guys speed checking and still soooooo many people overshot jumps.

The lighting issue did really bother me too. It was obvious that they were missing landings because they couldn't see them well enough. It was more that I felt bad for the skiers than being mad as a viewer for me.

they should have considered not running slopestyle at that time, because of the partly flat light / high sun

there isnt much they can do about the timeslot coz of how many events they have and when the biggest ones are aired on tv. but yeah the bigair jump was way too small, henshaw kinda found that out the hard way. a triple or 1800 in competition woulda been so sick

Flat light sucks. We always hit the bar or warming hut around that time of day cuz it sucks just to ride. It would blow to try to land those tricks blind.

this. you don't put a flat down box where you have to dump speed to grind the whole thing right before a jump. thats why everyone hit the rail instead.

im surprised at how little the slopestyle course has changed since like 8 years ago to allow for more creativity. its still just the typical couple rails, set up to pretend like its a creative setup, then 3 or 4 jumps. id really like to see the jumps and rails be mixed up more, and have WAY more options for different runs, id really like to see butter pads and a setup towards the top that really allows for people to get super creative. rather than just a couple typical rails.

and im even more disappointed at how poor the judging was, all it does is reward less style. its like they dont even care if it looks good, its like they measure on how big of spin and how long a hand touches their ski. it doesnt matter if it looks like johnny mosely in a mogul run, if their hand touches their ski, thats their "style" when

creativity comes from the riders, not the set up. keep it simple and let the riders do their thing.

but a more creative setup encourages more creativity. theres only so much you can do on a normal 50-70 ft jump. i just think having more options for different runs, so you can hit a typical down bar and big jumps, or have the option of smaller jibs and a big butter pad etc.. would be awesome.

The fact that the whole jib section of almost all slope styles are jokes annoys me. I'm quite sure Casabon is the only person who's rail performance was equal to his jump performance.

What I'm saying is, don't make a 90, 270 out a decent scoring trick. It is a safety trick, and should score low. This would force most people to throw down on the rail section and progress that end of big competition skiing.

they had a butter pad before and nothing creative came from it. and how would smaller rails make for more creative things? unless you want that think thank bullshit to be in comps, smaller features would be useless and would limit the riders options. again, you don't need a "creative" set up for people to be creative. how about you look up the course, and design, realistically, what you'd think would be a proper course?

doesnt have to be smaller rails, just different kinds of rails, something to allow for a rail to rail combo? some kind of a bomb drop? keystone, breck, mammoth, etc.. alot of the better parks out there are much more creatively set up and would allow the competitors to have a much more original run. casabon was the only one i thought really got creative with the rail section, and he really had to just make the course work so that he could.
the way the courses are set up now just encourages the most technical skiing possible, rather than style creativity and technical skill all being equal parts.

the most annoting thing was snowboarding. everything was a "cork" even if it clearly was not. like horgmos trip was sick and all, and hats off to him for being gritty and sticking things out while being injured and all but every 20 minutes it was like "last night in snowboarding bug air hormgo did the first triple cork ever" and it got annoying after teh 53478 time. but it was nice to see no shaun white for awhile.
