X games slopestyle rail set up opinion

Im not sure how i fell about the X games rail set up.

I think they need to set it up for more slow paced hits.

These guys are just carrying so much speed over the rails that they are only tapping the last few feet of the rail or box and can be off balance and you can even tell because they are only on the rail for a split second.

i mean its pretty sick with the 4's on and such but they are landing so close to the end of the rail that it is more of a 540 with a little rail bonk in there.

With a more slow paced and better position set of rails the guys can show more of their style and abilities on the rails.

the spacing between the second set and the rainbow was fine, but the spacing between the top rails and second rails was too close. ive also never been a huge fan of jumps packed so closely together.

the down rail was the worst of all, not long at all, 2 feet off the ground, and everyone just skipped the jump and hoped on from the side

casabon was so unique with the butter to tail press thing. his style on those rails was awesome.

it seemed like people got more creative than usual on the rails. IMO

I doubt it. Mount Snow fucked up Dew last year I doubt they could handle X Games.

they have the perfect slopes for it, X games controls what gets built anyway, its not like for dew tour where the moutain provides the park

Well..SPT builds both the parks for Dew and X, but they rely on the head cat driver to help with the jumps as SPT doesn't bring their own equipment. I'm saying compared to a mountain like Mammoth or Park City, Mt. Snow would suck for the X Games. Park City would be good since it is so close to the city.

i thought that the fact the didnt pul and pine needles down when there was flat light was retarded. the jumps were way to close and the jib section had a wierd set to it.

Doesn't have the space for the Sled events. Nor the room for the skier x course due to the long runout at the bottom of Breck. I suppose Peak 7 may be able to do it but I still don't think there is room for the sleds.

I hate seeing a comp when they all hit the same features. No one hit the dfd box or the other tree section jib. (big ol' flat down?)

Rail section was so dumb, anyone could throw 270s and shit onto 10 ft rails, you come right off afterwards it doesn't mean shit, they need to start of with a fucking mellow urban style 40 ft down hand rail and then see who actually is good at rails

x games slope has always been a real stinker for rails. Only a couple times were they a bit more instrumental in a run, but usually it is jump and speed centric.

the rails everyone hit were: the down rail, the down bar, and the rainbow. i dont know why they put the down box at the top, and ANOTHER down box by the joy stick? the coolest features were the ones no one hit: dfd box, and the fd box by the tree

This.

This was my first year really paying attention to slopestyle and I wasnt really impressed with how they presented it. Sure, they had cool names ("The Financial District"), but I thought they could have done better with this whole event (I know sounds weird someone with less than 10 posts and a complete n00b).

it would probably never happen because its in canda, but whistler would be perfect for the x games. With all the size of the mountains here they could make a massive course, and theyve already got all the equipment obviously. And weve also got like somewhat of a city of our own, plus were real close to vancouver too.

yea i noticed how in sammy's 450 on 630 off on the rainbow he slid lake the last 1.5 feet of the thing. and even the jumps had no time between landings and the next tranny

aspen is better.

Whistler is sick, but the venue would have to be high on the mountain, since the base area is so low. That means no night (read: primetime) coverage and it isn't very conducive for spectators.

Aspen is nice because the weather is usually fair or good. The big, big problem is the slope course is too short, but they try to cram it all in there and as a consequence the features are too close and the rails become more of a requisite than an actual feature. When they tried to make the course a bit more dynamic with a channel gap, so many people fucked up trying to align because there was zero space between jumps. When they put a kink box before the money booter, that was kind of neat, but it does disrupt the flow a bit and isn't very versatile; should it snow, speed could be a major issue.

This not a new gripe with the X-Games. If you guys are unable to control the bleeding with some tampons, write them a letter or emails. It ain't going to change shit since they have their constraints, but it is better than bitching on here about something that has been bitched about for a decade.

my favorite x games was tignes last year

the runs lasted longer and the rainbow rail there was huuuuuugee ( been there )

i reckon this year they could really get alot of creative features

Buttermilk is almost an ideal set up for X-Games. The Venues are compact, but that's exactly what espn wants. Everything is in 1 small area at the base of the mountain, easy to get spectators to, and literally right next to the airport. All the promo tents and sponsors have a perfect place to push product. And Aspen draws other entertainment possibilties with it's night life. Bringing in "big names" for shows allows even more money to flow into that town. And yes it's all about money.

As far as the slopestyle course goes I think it's outgrown that hill. The rails are set up on the steepest part of the course making it really hard to control speed. The jumps as they continue and need to get bigger are still stuffed into the same spots. What they could do is re-direct the BDX course to the adjacent run on the left and then move the start of the slopestyle up hill. The slopestyle drop-in then could be at the exit of the first banked S-Turns of the BDX. Steep drop, flat section then steep again. kind of what you want for a better variety of features. It would also allow them to space out the jumps a little more.

And could the Big Air jump be a littel bigger? It's hard watching guys think about or try to throw bigger tricks knowing that the jump is just a little too small to land safely. Push that landing down hill another 30 feet and I bet even the snowboarders will land more tricks.

At the end of the day I don't think you'll find a better set up for that event, and altering the courses too drastically at this point only adds costs and more miles of follow cams wires, tv cable, power cables, snomo laps ,cat transports, snowmaking, etc. I think ESPN is happy with what they have now.

It doesnt matter the jugdes and anouccers didnt even care at all about the rails, as long as they went down to the jumps and did a dub cork thats what got the big scores which is bullshit

What do you mean false? The athletes were scared of the course at Mt. Snow last year it was so poorly made. Mt. Snow may be okay some of the time, but they need to move somewhere where it will be sick every time. I will note that 2 years ago the Mt. Snow dew course was good.

They used to mix up the rails and jumps back in the day and it made the course so good. Just off the top of my head there was the year candide won that sw 630 on was on to a stair case feautre further down the course.. I'm also remebering an "x" box that you could it from 2 different sides, one was a battle ship the other was a up gap over the battlle ship to a down box. And one other mid to low course level feature I can remember was a stair feature (i think it was an urban replica) and it had 3 options a battleship, an up gap to down (pretty sure Tanner Hall nose pressed the down) and a huge gap to down.

xgames course designers should take a page out of Euro x's course. that course was way more spread out, and gave the athletes some time to think between features. couple the tech rails from this years american course, with the space of last years euro x course, and youve got a winner.

that down-flat-down was the dumbest thing in the world. way too short of sections and way to steep of kinks to do anything on. even gapping it to the down was pointless haha.

i dont know what the hell you guys are talking about when you say "they werent even hitting the jump on the second down rail they were hitting it from the side" you do understand that was the objective of the feature right? you hit a tiny 2 foot gap to a pad, then hit the down rail as an urban set-up...

reason for not hitting the flat down box was because of the carve over to the cannon box. it was too quick forcing you to hit the right jump which generally would score lower than hitting the cannon.

the hill they use to make the x games course isnt all that big, yet still they make the best course each year...

jumps are close together yes, and if you arent on point you might not be able to hit the jump, but really if you arent on point enough to do so, your score wouldnt be that great anyway.

reason for rails being small is because its easier to do tricks on them, meaning better runs, meaning they are more entertaining to watch. you throw a 40 ft downrail in there chances are people arent going to risk a nose butter onto it and they'll stick to a switch up at max.


anyways, thought i'd throw my 2 cents in there. yes the course is fast and tight, but all facotrs considered, tehy do a fucking amazing job and it usually is the best course of the year.
