I dunno if you guys saw this, but its pretty significant, the first privatly funded, manned space flight took place this morning. Even more significant is the fact that the whole thing was designed in under 10 years at a cost of only 20 million dollars, rather amazing considering a single space shuttle launch costs american tax payers around 420 million dollars.

Lets say you have 10 000 people, about the number of drunken rowdy males at a Flames playoff game. Armed with nothing more than semi-auto 22\'s and flaming Alberta whiskey, this rag-tag group could fight a successful guerilla campaign against 150 000 US troops plus tens of thousands of coalition troops, costing $5 bil a MONTH and lasting at least 2 years. Pretty pathetic considering the US spends more on its military per year than every other country COMBINED.

it's funny how the sustaionable efforts in one persons entire life can be made worthless by one transaction by the super rich. It almost makes it seem worthless to even try to recycle or reduce consumption.

20 million for a ship is pretty cheap too. how they just have to find a way to get like 40 people on one (or the size of a normal spaceship). maybe that will make up the other 400 million

they won the prize today exceeding the altitude minimum and breaking an x-15 altitude record. amazing how a guy that builds planes out of the top of his head goes to space for under 20 mil. considering shuttle missions cost like 420 mil.

Yeah well its not exactly going into space its only going to sub-orbital space. Which is like half way out of our atmopshere. The spaceship one can only go about mach 3 which is sufficent to get it to its peak alititude of of 100 k.m or about 60 miles. But in order to reach orbit you the escape velocity of our planets gravitational pull is around mach 25!!! which is 17,500 m.p.h. So although this is a huge acheivement they still have a long way to go before they can think about actual spaceflight.

Let alone be an efficent enough spacecraft to carry passangers,equipment,life support systems. If they had everyhing you needed to sustain life in space for any amount of time it wouldnt be flying very high. It's still pretty cool though
