SO, i know everyone hates these threads and i even i hate on them sometimes but right now i seriously cannot decide what ski to get. I love my surface watch lifes right now but they are gettin pretty beat and are kinda small so im in need of something new.

5'10.5''
170lbs

Ski on the East
Ski mianly in the park, but go all mountain every once in a while and will hit the woods if its ever a powder day. (gunna be in utah a bit this winter too)

So since i love my surfaces's right now i was lookin into the Double times but havent heard much about them, and if they were any good. Where to mount? Symmetrical? etc.

i also like the AR7's and they look like a great ski for what i need. Im just worried about not having a symmetrical ski when im in the park basically all weekend.

anyone care to chime in?

only ridden the ar6's which are very similar to ar7's, and they are dope, no prob with riding switch either! the top sheet gets pretty trashed darn quick, although with the new construction on the ar7's I hear that is better. a few of the crew are rocking the ar7's and only rave about them and they are all killin it!!!

Ar7's are going to be a lot more durable than the double times. I've seen way to many pairs of surface park skis beat to crap and missing a ton of edge. Both are pretty versatile park skis so either would be a good choice. Personally i would get the Ar7's just because they will hold up longer than the double times.

As for Symmetrical VS Asymmetrical, if you mount em centre you shouldn't notice the difference.

I was on Volkl Ledges (symmetrical) for two seasons and switched to Rossi s4's (would also be a good ski for you, super versatile) mounted em centre and i like them better than the volkls. Still ski switch as good if not better than my volkls.

ar7's are awesome. great for all mountain and all that good stuff, but doesnt take away from their park performance. the topsheet is really shiny and slippery, so it gets scratched and it delams. but not too badly and it doesnt affect the performance. overall great ski. other skis up your alley would be line chronic cryptonite or the k2 domain

I would say revivals would be better, he seems to be looking for a stiffer more versatile park ski. And it also seems like he's made up his mind and that he's going to get either ar7's or double times.

my old watch lifes were great for everything, the dims are the same as double times so I think they'd be just as good. If you're just doing pure park I'd probly go for ar7s but if you want to do other things once in a while and still have good park skis get double times

Haven't tried the AR7 or an armada ski for that matter but I am completely satisfied with my doubletimes. I've skied on them almost every day from mid november until now and only seen minor base and topsheet damage. I ripped about 1/4th of my edge out on a box because I came down on the box more than aggressively but other than that the ski has held up.

Its stiffer than your average park ski so it slays jumps of all sizes and it handles superbly well on rails. Every landing feels like you stomped it. I really like how its soft enough to butter in the nose yet its stiff enough for pop on ollies and popping off of jumps. Good ski overall and I reccomend it to you.

-1.5 back for a little bit of all mountain fun. They still slay it in the park. Basically a great one quiver ski for any type of skiing. I've skied 2ft deep freshies and had no problem at all.

I vote Ar7s

I ski and have been skiing on a now old pair of AR6s, which could we can assume to be the same as the AR7.
I love them, probably the best ski I have ever ridden. The seem to be great on everything except deep snow, but it is a park ski so I understand. It is fun on jumps, rails, boxes, crud whatever.
What I am most impressed by is the fact on how durable they are. I have ridden them for three years now and all the have to show for it is a few chips on the top sheet, a small edge crack and a little rocker in the tails. It is not like I have been gentle with them too. I have ridden over logs and roots in the woods, rocks in the spring and ice cause this is the Ice Coast. Still have life in them.

I have never skied a Surface ski, so I can't endorse the rumor that they suck and I can't endorse the rumor that they are good either

I have mine mounted at 1.5 back, Kills it in the park, kills it everywhere.

i'm in the same situation.  i'm 5'9 about 160 lbs. and im either getting the double times in 170 or some ar7's in a 166.  planning on skiing mostly park and hitting jumps along with a little bit of all mountain.

would the 166 be to short?

any help's appraciated.

This is New Schoolers and Armada is a bigger company and already has its foot in the door.
but here are my two cents, i was going to get AR7's but went with surfaces. my friend ross has AR7 and i have the surfaces from that year. 2 years now going on 3, and we would swap equipment for a run and stuff, and my surfaces had way more pop to em after 2 years and were lighter also.
im not sure about this years, but i know companies change very little in between last years and this years model, so im gonna have to go with surfaces.

Surface for sure! I'd say the new watch lifes because they seem to be stiffer, but you really wont get all that much pow time with them being an east coaster, so i'd say the double times for a one ski quiver since they are wider than the no times.

You will certainly want to choose the double time. The ski kicks ass and it held up really well durability wise last year. It will kill it in the park and the extra width will be sweet for all mountain riding!

I have double times, got a SICK deal on them thanks to the surface crew, they're sweet skis but I don't trust the durability too much. Getting AR7's this year as well just to expand
