Racers know how to ski but are still one dimensional.

Racers do know how to ski... but theres alot of things that racers dont do.
I dont understand the point of sitting on a race course all day.
So when i'm riding up first chair on 1 on the way to mid gondola to race to the top and get freshies.. i see all these racers in tights on a groomed run...hmmm.. lets think about this for a minute.... why? winning, competion? why everyday? isnt this also one dimensional? i think so.
Granted racers diserve more respect than straight park skiers who barely know how to carve. but how much more? in my book not much....
racing is also not being a well rounded skier. one dimensional as i said before.
this brings us to my point... you dont get respect unless you can do everything...
hauling ass turns laying deep arcs down a groomer... skiing a bump line at mach 10 with no fear... hitting the biggest jump in the park with style and fluidity... as well as skiing P4 at mammoth off rocks on top into 6 super g turns at 50mph. isnt this the real all around skier..
i'm sick of reading all these posts defending racers... when in reality they're now better than park skiers.... unless they open they're minds and leave the race course and do it all.

Hes just stating that people who race ALL the time and never ski the powder/glades/more challenging stuff are just as bad as people who ski in the park ALL the time, for me, I like skiing the glades and trees almost as much as I like jibbing and going off the tables in the park.

I will have to agree with you. I believe racers are generally the best skiers, but you are right, SOME of them are one dimensional. All they do is stick on the racecourse and go for speed, but this only a percentage of them (i am not sure how great). Some are in the park, the moguls and backcountry too. Like some park skiers only stick to the park and pipe, but many of them ski everything too. Personally I would rather see someone comfortable in all areas of the mountain, instead of being pefect only on the racecourse. But it is unfair to say ALL racers are one dimensional, beacuse only some are!

well maybe where you ski racers just stick to the race course, but here in B.C every racer i know my age and older spends a hell of all of time freesking, either in the park trees or backcountry. My coached won't let us just stay on the race course allday. We get to go freeskiing all the time. They know that skiing outside of the course helps are skiing just as much as skiing the race course.

Hey Billy Buttwigger get with the program here. Obviously you don't know very many racers. As an ex-racer myself I have had coaches tell me and my fellow racers to go off and ski pow-pow while it was still on the ground. Racing builds great technical skills to use all over the mountain. What makes you think that racers just want to race all day long and do nothing else? Competition is an adrenaline rush and lots of people get a kick off racing, but trust me, they like to venture outside of the gates. Maybe you should try venturing outside of your naive mind.

I have been skiing since I was 5. And I have been racing everyone of those years till now. But I have also been able to do a backflip at 9. Why do I say this is because all my friends are the same way each part of the sport makes you slightly quicker. I promise every one out there you haven't really caught air or felt speed or air till you go 85mph off a giant knole in a downhill. Salmon makes you quick on your feet and you learn how to corrct yourself quicker. GiantS makes you feel more relaxed going into bigger jumps or long huge turns in powder. SuperG for huge strait lines in powder. Halfpipe gets you on your flow and makes you become smoother. Rails help on balance and stability. Park jumps lets you show off your stuff and makes you stay calm so you don't pop to early or throw into a spin to early. I'm sorry to dissapoint every one but I give alot of credit to the people in RACING, they have practiced the same as jibbers/newschoolriders
and I feel that you should learn to race and jump. All it will do is make you a better skier all around. (sorry to the extrem skiers but I count you as jibbers)

ok...i dont get this...why shouldnt people back up racers? i mean...people shouldnt talk shit about them in the frist place. so of course im going to stick up for my fellow skier...who cares what they do on skis. as long as its what they want to do, then leave them alone. does it really bother you that much, that they ski in their downhill suits on groomed runs? they are leaving more powder for you. and this sirjibsalot fellow. if youve seen jeff harrison, i can guarantee he goes bigger in the pipe. he went 18 ft out of windells pipe last summer. and hes on the us alpine development team. i have nothing against any of you, because your probably all really cool people. but stop bitching about racers. its freakin skiing.

Who cares! I race for my high school team because it's fun and different. I get to miss alot of class to ski too... It's all part of skiing man and it really helps your tech. I love the park more but I respect the racers for doing what they want on the hill... Whatever, race, bigmountian, park, pipe, or once a season with a family of 7. As long as your skiing, its ok in my books.

sooo nine milla a pure racer skis where? do they have a special lift so they can just ski gates and never have to step out side of it? I think there is no such thing as a pure racer. And no i doubt joel could boost higher then jeff and if he can mad props to him

Clarification of my point is needed as people are messaging me and freaking out! Just like park rats, pure racers that do nothing but race are gay. I'm sure there are VERY few of these types of racers, the rest have progressed and can do some cool stuff in the park. Itst he ones that refuse to progress and insist on trying to wreck it for the people that do that make me wanna lose it.

nine mella and billy just give it a rest with trash talking the racers! you are so dumb cuz half the newschoolers are ex racers! and not all racers just stick to the race course! i personally hit the pipe,moguls,pow,cliffs,back country and the park! and you will be surprised on what racers can do when it comes to newschool! i know some racer will go bigger than you in the pipe and then when you are finished pissing your pants go change you fricking pamper and stop trashing the racers cuz you are just trashing skiing which isn't cool!!
and i know there are some racers that are pricks but don;t stereotype all racers because of them! here in B.C. alot of racers are awsome newschoolers!!!

I'm not going to say much here because I believe that enough people have already stated their opinions. But I would like to say that all of you who think that racing is 'easier' than freeskiing is waaay off the mark. Almost all of us would stand above a 75-degree downhill course and promptly shit ourselves.

ok first of all jibbers dissin racers is dumb, it is sorta like a skiboarder saying a snowblader is a loser because he snowblades and doesnt skiboard. and secondly i know racers that are better jibbers then me and throw down in the park as well as all around and i have a ton of respect for their skiing ability, also look at the top pros the majority (i am not saying all but quite a few) have racing or freestyle backgrounds, just listen to jon olsson and he will say how racing helped him. Also why would you make fun of someone if they are doing what they enjoy, that is pretty judgemental to say someones gay just because they enjoy somethign you dont. Finally I can see how people get stereotypes against racers because a few have bad attitudes, but I think that newschoolers are worse for having attitudes, if you dont believe me just read this thread again. And to end my rant, will people please stop posting threads like this and stuff in thes forums it is getting really annoying. get some respect!
