I'm a farely experienced park skier (rails and jumps) and my skis are getting to short. I have the 09 K2 scilencers now and want to upgrade to a good park ski. I also like to go through the woods and hit stuff in there. What skis are good? What skis should i steer clear of? Thanks
your kidding? all line skis feel like deadweight. They're super durable yes, but really not poppy, I'd suggest some atomic punx, i got them this year. Super light! Symmetrical, durable and a fast base.
I heard the new Thalls from aramada are going to be dope, will probally be high up in the park ranking not too sure they will be great in powder though. the topsheet is chill as fuck too
I didn't say they were poppy, to answer the OP's question, they are not stiff, they are a soft ski. They're fun for rails and smaller jumps, no jumps over like 40ft. But the afterbang is also fully symetrical like your punxs. For midwest skiing, a softer ski is more enjoyable for me atleast.
im still just not a fan of line skis in general, ive had he invaders, and skied the afterbangs. They are a very cheap and budget ski. They arent bad, I just would suggest something better..
Only had a few days on my laroses but they are awesome, coming from anthems they feel super light, spin well, and the flex is awesome, super poppy and snappy but enough flex in the tips and tails to have fun with.
You can pick up the laroses for dirt cheap on levelninesports if your after new skis pick up the LTE's and take advantage of the 3 year warranty.
Only thing I would change is that they came in a 184 length too. There are other good skis out there too, but I couldnt be happier with my purchase.
ok, Good:
very poppy
flexy but not noodly
very very light (lightest ski ive ever owned)
super low swing weight
turn well
top sheet does not chip or scratch easily (if that matters to you)
carve really good
feel very stable also at high speeds
now the Bad:
-edges are pretty thin. i dont ski rails alot and got an edge crack already
- my coreupts have 1 season on them, massive rail abuse, rock impact and generally bad treatment and they dont have a single edge crack)
-base does not keep wax for long, basically you gotta wax em every 4 days to keep the bases prime
- bases are rather soft and dislike contact with rocks
i love mine, but they are liek a sensitive hot girl, you gotta treat them with care, then theyll love you and youll have the fun of your life with them.
on the other hand, the coreupts. i had the TJ pros and they were decently light and rather stiff. but super durable. higher swing weight and alot of camber.
they were like a dirty bitch, they could take alot of abuse hahaha... if ur a bigger heavier guy that doesnt want to maintain the ski (coreupts kept wax very well) then the TJ pros might be the ski for you.
then 169 is waaaayyyy too short. you should be lookin at 180+ skis esp. when your not solely skiing park. 182 punx is a prime park ski. the atomic patent in 185 would be an ideal allround ski for you. or ON3P jeronimo would suit you. havent ridden em yet but everyone here is really stoked on them.
BS, you wont feel much of a difference with a ski that is 5 cm longer in the tip and tail in terms of spinning.
but especially with landings and at speeds long skis are alot more stable. you can forget pow at your size with a 169 ski, even if its a pow ski. twin tips, especially symmetrical ones ski alot shorter than tehy measure up to. this is due to the binding position being close to the center, and that through the tail, which you dont have on piste skis you lose about 10 cm.
if it would be harder to spin why are all pros using long skis? belive me you will not be happy with sucha short ski. id say 175 is the smallest you should go, and that i would consider a length for rail and urban only.
I would say a 179 at the absolute smallest for you. Im 5'3" and I ride 170's in the park and 175's in pow. You are gonna want that extra length for stability and you wont notice it in the air. I would probably recommend s4's. such a bomber ski- stiff, stable, durable, poppy. I think rossi did a really nice job with it. That being said, Im riding the new punx just because i only weigh 118lbs so i dont need the stiff s4. I love the punx with that nice medium flex. Only have about 8 days on them 7 being all park/mostly rails. They have held up fine so far. Some topsheet chipping and thats about it. gotta love how light they are too. barely notice them there which has been so nice on rails.
Your Best Bet for a park ski is to get something symmetric!!!! makes its really easy for backwards skiing same flex i ski the Moment Jibs and there absolute insane!!!!! perfect amount of flex for doing everything, you can ride them all around the mountain as well just stay clear of deep stuff!!! Happy Skiing
