Thanks, I've been doing a lot of boxes and rails and someone told me I'll have a lot more balance with freestyle bindings. Is that true?

It's your first year, you dont need top of the line shit.

1.) It's your first year, you're not doing dub 12's on 100+ footers and destroying bindings.

2.) You're leasing, you don't get to be very particular about what equipment you want to get.

3.) You won't even notice a difference with those bindings.

4.) Does your shop have some sort of damage waver policy? If not I would strongly advise you don't hit rails with your lease skis otherwise you're gonna need to pay wholesale to have them replaced.

5.) I work in a shop and 70% of our business is leasing skis. No one likes kids that come in complaining that "these bindings aren't park bindings" (There's no such thing) or better yet, what I had to deal with a few weeks ago, "You guys need to remount these skis at true center. Whenever I hit rails I slip out because they're mounted too far back." You're getting skis, boots and bindings for next to nothing. If you want to get specific equipment buy your shit. GAHHH!

the way our shop works, we lease over 7k pairs of skis a season, and our owner is a strong believer that the customer is always right. if it means letting someone trash a very old pair of skis to get them to come back next season, we'll do it. at that point, those skis have been completely paid off, probably 3x, so its just profit at that point

Yeah, I see what you're saying. He's talking new skis/bindings though. At my shop that first lease is what generally pays off the ski and produces little profit. Trashing all the new skis for customer satisfaction would put us out of business. I'm not saying being a dick to the customer is the right thing to do. Simply, there's only so much leeway as far as equipment styles and mechanics go before you're just getting too picky. Which resides in cases similar to the one addressed in the OP.
