Rocker Pro's & Con's

I might be purchasing some blue steeles but ive never ridden a rockered ski before. Are there any cons to them? I ski mostly all park but ill occasionally charge groomers and hit trees with friends. i ski in the east too if that helps.

Depends what ski completely, something like the Hellbents are jittery as fuck on hardpack, while a less aggressively rockered ski isn't.

My personal experience is that if it is going to be your main go-to ski, get something with traditional camber underfoot and tip and tail rocker. This will give you a nice lively feel on groomers and firm snow and the benefits of the rockers quick pivot and turning ability.

Rocker is great in deep snow.  thats it, thats all....

with a rocker else where you lose the full effective edge on the ski.  My buddy with reveals looks like ass on groomers cuz his tips and tails flap around like a gay kids wrist, but in the slush and softer stuff he does have an advantage.

I have the alpha 1's and they have rocker and they're pretty fun in the park in groomers and even in some light pow.

Agreed. I have been skiing Kung Fus and Hellbents all year and I don't think I will ever go back to a non-rockered ski. The only thing they don't do better is hold an edge as hard as non-rockered skis. But they butter so much better, the catch less on landings and in crud, not to mention their improved deep snow performance. I will probably be getting some reno rockers if I have my way about my next ski choice.

the thing is i wont be skiing any deep snow probably, so how do they hold up on hard groomers??

on groomers they're not going to be as good as a traditional camber ski. i have jeronimos and truthfully i don't even notice it anymore like i did when i just got them, i really only notice how much shorter it skis.

didnt want to start a new thread,
i was on the moment skis website looking at the donner party, i noticed that the rise on the tail was higher than the nose, but the rise begins later than it does on the tip.
Will this make any significant difference?

i have jmos. and i lvoe everything about the rocker. they are the first rockered skis ive ever ridden and they feel great on everything. i live in michigan so its all ice and shitty snow. but the rocker on the jmos cuts through all the shit and holds a nice edge. the only con i can think of is that sometimes i cross my tails riding switch but maybe thats just because i suck.

but deff go with on3p. they make an amazing ski

Makes the ski more directional, running length is centered further back. Small rocker in the tail is great on some types of charging skis, even if you dont land switch - just makes it so you can wash speed really quick by sliding the tails out.

that type of design is the most confidence inspiring thing ever. seriously you will feel pro the first time you ski them in deep untouched.

that said, they are frightening to ski on anything icy, and they suck horibbly on hardpack and big moguls.

That ski is defenitly the third or fourth ski in your quiver, because you dont want to bring it out unless there is 10+inches of new. and you will only use them for half a day, then bust out the midfat/allmountain ski to shred the chop.

They have a smaller running length compared to a non-rockered ski. That means they'll feel shorter and you'll have to balance a little more forward and back, but they still have camber underfoot and are medium-stiff skis. I certainly would say they still kill it on groomed.

All my skis are rockered now except my rock skis. Haven't found any cons yet unless you are looking for a race ski.

I wish i could give you more karma, your honestly just so helpful in basically every thread i see you post in. Not to mention your part of a sick ski company, which id love to support if i had the money right now (not enough shifts/owing my parents over a grand means not much spending money for little ol me)
