Annoying College Roommates

Anyone have this problem at college?

I have my roommate who was cool to begin with. He was from out of state, plays basketball, and knows a lot about video games. Beginning of first semester hes chill, watches entourage and south park on his tv. I'm fine with it because those shows are great.

As the semester moves on when we talk about a subject he always insists that he is right and I am wrong. Something as simple as "Well that video game looks fun," and he'll return with "Uh no its shit blah blah." So I can't ever talk with him. When I'm clearly trying to study he turns on his xbox and plays at the loudest volume possible and talks to himself while he plays. Also I'm a guy that gets kinda annoyed by repetitive noise, so its the end of January and being out of state he believes its warm enough for shorts. (today it was 5 degrees).......so he gets sick.

Now I'm sitting at my desk doing my own business making no noise while my roommate is coughing hard like hes trying to force a cough every 5 seconds, while talking to himself, while playing xbox at max volume.... every single day.

Normally I'm a nice guy so I deal with it, but now I just can't stand it. And on top of that, his side of the room is dirty as fuck with old boxes and garbage and he never cleans it. So next semester I'm getting an apartment with my friends who are normal.

Anyone else face the bad roommate problem?

Shit... Yeah I am kinda worried about that too. Hopefully it works out. I've known all of them since high school so it shouldn't be as bad as if they were just random girls.

my roomate has assburgers syndrome..........not the social disorder one, the one where he always brings the smelliest food into the room, causing it to smell like an ass burger for some period of time

just spend less time in your room. i knew alot of kids with bad roommates who only got dressed in their room and slept there sometimes. just do all your work in a library and hang out with friends at night

Wow I have it really lucky. My roommate last year was really nice and everything but was just a complete mess.

Now I live with 2 of my best friends from last year (and now this year too), and the third kid who signed on is probably one of the nicest kids you'll ever meet. He's also now the president of UVM outing club so I get to know so many more ppl through him.

My roommate is cool most of the time. Although, he watches all those dumb mt shows like 16 and pregnant while simultaneously having some weird asian show on his laptop playing.  He also plays starcraft, and it's rather annoying to hear him clicking the mouse 500 times a second while I'm trying to do something.

Freshman year I lived in a force triple (in a room barely big enough for 1) and had a roommate who never went to class, or ate anywhere but the room. He was always there. In some ways it was ok because it made me go out and meet more people, but he was constantly taking my food and using my shit. And he always tried to be intimidating. (he was one of the "I am black, therefore i can scare white kids easily." types) So finally one day i got sick of his shit and went toe to toe with him. I knew he was a pussy, so i punched him square in the jaw which knocked him over.

Never had a problem again.

So yea, i guess i did go by office space prison rules. Beat the shit out of someone the first day, or become someone's bitch. (I just didn't do it the first day)


Oh and I also ridiculed him in every video game he owned.

Sorry for the dub post...

Just take this as a learning experience. Having roommates sucks for the most part, even if they are great people. Living in close quarters with someone will always cause some sort of stress. I had great roommates, one of which I got into a full-on brawl with, but he is still one of my bestfriends to this day.

You will almost always be around people that you don't get along with completely (work, school, life in general) but you need to find a way to make due and move on.

I never see my roommates. One is literally never home, the other locks himself in his room. The one who locks himself in his room also steals my beer.

One weekend he came out of his room to hang out with me and a few of my friends. My 2 friends and I were going to get some beer to pregame before a party, so I invited my roommate to throw down on some beer, he says "ooo no that's ok, I'll just drink a few" so I explain to him that he won't be drinking any if he doesn't pay. He must not have understood that.

We get back home with a case of bud light and a 12pack of coronas. We set them in the fridge to let them get cold. My roommate gets up and goes and helps himself to a corona. I tell him he needs to pay before he grabs another beer, he then tells me that he'll just drink this one. So I say pay for that one then. Anyways my 2 friends and I drank 2 coronas each, my roommate drank 6. He didn't touch the case because he hates "cheap" beer. He still hasn't paid me for the beer, so I started to steal his sunkist and oreos.

Tell him your sick of him pretending like there is no one else there and in retaliation bring a new girl in to your room every night and tell him to get the fuck out or he's gunna have some live porn to watch. That'll make him leave.

But seriously, if you are getting an apartment with friends, just be patient. Things will be good in no time. In the mean time I suggest playing pranks to pass the time and give yourself some laughs.

But real quick:

When the sink gets filled up on both sides, its somehow magically all mine. We've been here since august and I have cleaned the kitchen/rest of basement 4 or 5 times. The other 2 down here, ZERO. Now I stopped and there's fucking garbage every where. O and if I leave a Nintendo controller out upstairs Im a horrible, forgetful, dumb ass roommate, but if they leave a beer pong mess and dog shit in the basement, we deserve it.

OO OO another one, I accidentally leave the tv on. My roommate upstairs who is literally 3 feet away calls me and says "hey you left the TV on" I think ok I well keep a mental note not to do that again and say "alright my bad" 10 minutes later I get a text saying "Don't worry I got it"

The little shit adds up.

had a staff accom room mate for a hotel i was working at in banff.

was a super nerd. he would work at 8am and i had the 2pm shift.

he would wake up early and go on his computer to check whatever forums he was on. one day i just asked if he could not type so loud or not do it at all and he stopped. kid had poor hygeine and wouldn't brush his teeth. talk your ear off about dumb bullshit. all that time i kept civil and feigned interest in the conversations.

well when he got fired he gave me his broken ps3. he says its only the power supply, haven't had time to fix it yet because its in calgary and im in toronto.

i suppose that if i was a jerk to him he would have thrown the ps3 in the trash.

i prefer to live on my own. i don't really need to have people around me, so i don't have to deal with roommates anymore.

I live in a house that has a basement and my room is in the basement but so is my kitchen. Or I could go upstairs and cook in the kitchen up their also. I could shit in my basement and shit up stairs.

I live in a house and sleep in a basement.

I know what you mean.  I had a TERRIBLE roomate freshman yer in the dorms.  I still would kill this kid if I ever saw him today.  Last year (sophomore) I had a house with 2 roomates.  Ruined a friendship with one of them because he is the dirtiest gross motherfucker ever and has no respect for anyones stuff, or his own.  Tough it out, or whoop his ass, that's the 2 options.  I just toughed it out freshman year and sophomore year.  Now I have fucking awesome roomates who are really clean and respectful like me.

One thing though.  He didn't get a cold from wearing shorts.  You don't actually catch a cold from being in cold weather.  Sounds like you are just looking for things that he does that you have a right to be mad about.  I did that a lot when I had bad roomates, it's a vicious cycle.  Good luck though.

My roommate this past fall was a gay (literally) little musical theater student. He would always play on his keyboard and practice singing with his incredibly homosexual voice and it drove my absolutely fucking crazy.

He also felt the need to open the fucking window almost every night when it was 30-ish degrees or lower outside. I would just walk over and shut it without saying anything. Kid was a little bitchass fuck.

freshman year i was the bad roommate, yes i can admit it. I was messy drunk a lot and sometimes would eat her food due to munchies. She was a very nice sweet clean polite girl that did not drink. But i have learned from my errors, as a senior i have chosen a roommate that is messy, drunk a lot and sometimes will eat my food due to the munchies...and i couldnt be happier.

So I guess I will throw my story into the mix

Freshman year I roommed with a dude who became one of my best friends.  He was sort of a mess, would be hungover for days after getting all fucked up. Dude wouldnt get out of bed and wouldnt open a window.  Fucken smelled horrible in there.  But overall he was cool even though I walked in on him beating off one day.

Next year I got boned from housing, my buddy left school so I had to room with this other kid I knew.  He was dating this fucken whack job of a chick who ended up getting booted from school because she had a 0.0 average.  So I didn't know my roommate offered for her to stay in our room for the rest of the year.  So I was reading for some class and this girl snuck thru the window where the chair i was reading in happened to be.  Stepped on my nuts and was like Oh hey Jim I am going to be spending a lot of time here, I got kicked out of school and cant go home.  Then she fired up the tv and laid in my roomates bed.  This bitch was there 24-7 I would get home from class and she would have all her friends in my room.  They smoked a bunch of my pot, drank my beers and what not.  She would never shower smelled like dirty chick in our room all the time.  Worst thing was she was haggard looking.  I guess one night my roommate was fucking her (thank god I was not in the room) rolled over and broke his cock.  The next day I was laying in bed reading or whatever and he came in and was like, Hey man got something to tell you, I broke my penis last night.  I looked at him and just laughed.  

I guess everyone has had bad roommate, after it is all over you have great stories to tell friends and whoever.
