Why not? Obviously it won't become identical to aerials, its a different event. But whats to stop slopestyle/pipe comp skiing becoming as detached from every day 'newschoolers' and as unrelateable to the general public. Its well on the way, the size of the features needed to do the biggest tricks is already beyond what 99.9% of us will ever get to ride. The reason aerials lost its following is just that, it became impossible to relate to for the average skier.
With Skateboarding (mega ramp excluded) I see a guy do a tech ledge trick or a big trick down some stairs and I know that if I go practise enough, I can find myself a ledge or stairs just like that and do the same trick. No extra money or sponsorship is needed, that keeps it relatable.
The same is true of parts of skiing. I could go hit urban rails and gaps in a dress like Stept/B&E (only jokey hate), I could do silly/cool stuff like Travelling Circus, I could even hit BC booters like Nimbus.
But without the sponsors and the money, I can't just go and hit a 140 (or whatever it was) foot jump in Alaska and throw a triple flat, any more than I can go hit aerials style jumps and throw triple fulls. So why is it so very different?
