That laptop is shit, not going to lie. You should stick with a major company (hp, dell, apple). If you really know nothing about computers i recommend you get an apple. They don't get viruses and are very easy to work with. They are more expensive but what you have here is a piece of shit. I recommend you go to like best buy or radioshack. They will help you choose a laptop there that will fit your needs. Hope this helps.
Like said, stick with the major brands. Performance isn't something you want to cheap out on. Apples are pretty sweet, but expensive. I have a Dell Inspiron 15. I love it. Simple, easy to operate. Not that expensive (mine came to about 699, but I customized it's performance).
Get something practical for your everyday use. Not a shitty dual screen laptop.
stick to a major brand that you know you can go to if your computer breaks, also buy in person and not online so you know you can bring it back to the store guaranteed if something breaks wether that be the apple store or best-buy. except if you are doing the apple student discount which i think can only be done online or through your school
