someone stole the basket off my pole today...explain that

i put my poles outside the lodge, noticed both baskets, came back and one of them had a missing basket. i'm so confused as to what happened

yeh its quite simple. i took some at the stratton memorial day rail jam last year. at the bottom floor of the lodge thay had all of their rental stuff all over the place. i took poles. and i almost took a giro shiv but it didnt feel right

To those of you who are saying "just steal them from the rental shop", you should really think about what you're saying. No, poles may not be a huge expense for the mountain, but they are still an expense. When your mountain has to spend money on new poles because little brats are stealing them all the time, it means less to spend on other parts of the mountain, such as the terrain park. When kids are jacking rental poles left and right, the expenses add up. Just go out and spend the $20 on a pair of poles...

I tried to reason with the patroller, but this was after I explained I found the poles in the middle of the trail and picked them up, so apparently the guy thought I stole them, which I did, but the ski patroller considered it me claiming poles that were found, and plus the laying the hands on a minor thing, I payed him for another pair of poles, and his pass was pulled, that was that

It's pretty dumb how expensive pole are. Go to the lost and found and just give a really generic description of a pair of poles, they'll come up with something for you. Stealing them from another person is kind of a dick move. Stealing rentals is less of a dick move, but it's gonna cost the mountain, which, in theory, can end up costing you in lift ticket prices.

at my mountain if any of the rental shop employees catch a person not on rental skis that has rental poles, they are instructed to snap the poles in half.

its basically just to piss you off, i mean, you cant do anything about it, because you stole those poles, but you arent really at a loss either, because you stole those poles.

Our hill actually has some real nice rental poles, i have a season pass and ski pretty much 3-4 days a week so i usually grab a pair at the beginning of the season and just bring them back at the end in march, saves me time from having to grab them everyday and i always return them, i mean why not who needs poles if the seasons over anyways lol.

I've pretty much realized a lot of people are major assholes and wills steal anything. I got a wallet stolen recently, but thats understandable and nothing new but it just reminded me you cant trust people.

If like 25 sets of rental poles get stolen thats going to cost the mountain like 250$ max... I think they are willing to take that loss. If they weren't they would have rental shop employees handout poles or guard. haha


Don't steal other peoples polls though. even if they are $5 poles it's still stealing

in my gaper days i had $60 carbon fiber poles and they got jacked i was so rattled. but i did as everyone else seems to do and walked in grabbed some poles and walked out from the rental shop

lol at the posters that said that they hate it when someone steals their poles but they take rental poles instead. Just think to yourselves on that one. You said its a bummer when someone jacks yours. How do you think the gapers feel when someone takes their poles regardless if they are rental poles or not?

I see three solutions to this predicament.

1) Learn to ski without poles and like it.

2) SEPERATE your poles WITH your skis. Why this doesn't happen is beyond me. It'll stop theft 80% of the time every time.

3) Buy cheap poles.

those little bastards steal them at my mt so they can use the poles to push themselves at flat parts so they avoid unstrapping and restrapping in
they also think its cool to pretend they are light sabers and battle each other to the death... nvm i do that all the time as well

I know this can't only be happening at my mountain.. seriously?

Also, buying expensive ski poles makes you a bit of an idiot. I mean seriously... the benefit is what exactly? Some special super strong carbon shit, that breaks your ribs instead of the pole when you fall on it?

I work in rental, and I don't think taking rental poles from the shop is the end of the world. But taking rental poles from people on the mountain? Why? They have to pay for that shit when they go back to the shop, and even if they're insured, gapers get really stressed out about small things like that. You might be ruining their day.
People give me their broken poles to throw out all the time, and there's always loads of singles lying around somewhere. Just grab old poles when you see them, that are your length, and by the end of the season you'll have plenty of pairs.

Poles are not rocket science.

Haha at the comment about Cardrona poles. You can take anything from there, and they wont notice.
Not everyone is an idiot though. If I see you come in to 'rent for a day', and you're a super cool newskoola, I'm going to ask for ID, and you'll be in the awkward situation of actually having to rent for the day, and bring them back. Then maybe you'll get an old pair from out back for free, who knows. If you're not a douchebag.

My poles are mismatched and different lengths b.c I break them on trees so much doing slackcountry and such.
I just get more from wherever I can without stealing anybody elses.

Mine always broke at the beginning, so when i saw a little kid that had small poles that fit me well i would buy it off of him.But now i found strong ass little poles.They are the best.PS: their from the 80's haha
