Wide brakes, mounting bindings, etc

i was pissed when i had to pay 25 but thats only because i was expecting to get a discount but forgot the card i needed, so yes in my opinion 50 dollars is too much

In my mind, $50 for a mount is way too much, especially when the shop does it wrong (happened to me twice). Now I mount my shit myself.

bump... how much should wide brakes cost (for p12 jibs) and are they commonly in stock at shops? or will i probably need to find some online?

also, can i have the skis mounted without the brakes, then put the brakes on when i buy them??

In the past, Rossi/Look wide brakes have run me about 45, and sometimes shops have them on hand if they are a Rossi/Look dealer. Otherwise maybe a week in the mail.

Mounting is 30 at the shop I work at, then we also do a quick wax after mounting. 30 seems to be standard around the midwest at least.

And no, shops will not mount without the brake. In my experiences, a sixer of good beer goes a long way in getting a service discount.

bummer they won't mount them without the brakes.. i wanna get these things mounted asap but will probably have to order the brakes first, damn. any recommendations on where to get them online?

Mounting is a big liability thing. People (dumb people) will sue over anything, so shops need to adhere to all safety precautions that have to do with bindings. Just like they won't mount/adjust old bindings that fall out of spec, they won't mount without all safety features in place and in working order. Lawsuits, man, fucking lawsuits.

For the brakes, call shops in your general area. The fastest way would be to find a Rossi/Look dealer that has them in stock, then even if it's a few hours drive from you, just have them mailed to your home. That would only be a few days. Otherwise, order directly through a shop, and see if there is expedited shipping if you wish to pay a little extra.

Either way, go through a shop. Not only will that be the fastest option, but you can leave your skis and bindings there so once the brakes arrive they can mount them up without you having to make multiple trips. We do it all the time at my shop.

i know evo has the brakes for 40-45. that seems to be the standard price. i know some shops keep some extras around if they are a look/rossi dealer (so they can make quick fixes), so if your brakes are new, they probably would have no problem exchanging a new brake for a different new brake.

as for mounting, every shop in my area (evo, sturtevans) goes for about 30-35

70 bucks for a mount, 60 for a tune up @ http://www.snowcrestskicenter.com/index.html .  It's the closest shop to me.  They have really shitty customer service and they even put free bumps in the bases of my ski under the heel piece after they mounted them!  Probably because I talked them down to $40 for a mount.  They did throw in a "free" wax though.  Three round trips there at about an hour one way for this ordeal taught me to mount and adjust my own shit.  If you are one of the few on here that live on the south side of Chicago and happen to see this and have ever considered going there......reconsider.

Yeah that's nuts. There is some work involved and specialized equipment used in mounting that's pretty important, but not $70 important if you know what you're doing. I work at a shop in Milwaukee, and nowhere around here is it that expensive. It almost angers me that they would charge that much. Race tunes should cost $60, not a standard tune.
