next season i want to be a ski instructor at jiminy peak..i am a pretty good skier and want to teach other people how to ski but i am not really sure how to teach them..what to say and stuff..so if you could reply hear please or send me a message i would appreciate it..it would be specifically the young kids..(ski wee) thanks..

im not an instructure but i think they will probly train you, if they dont just tell them to do a snow plow and stuff..............just telll them how to ski

i was a ski instructor this season. its really simple especially ski wee kids. just tell them to make pizzas. you canbasically tell thelittle kids anything and they will do it. usually to get the job you have to do the training courses first so they know your a good skier

ive been a ski instructor for 3 years and apprenticed to ski instructors the year before that, and i still feel inadequate but here's how it's done:

they most likely have to train you, insurance and stuff. they'll run you through clinics, have you follow seasoned instructors, have you examine your own skiing, and 'teach' other instructors.

but the most important thing you need to do is keep your skiing from being just mechanical, you need to force yourself to analyze, how you ski, why it's done that way, and what happens if its done the opposite way, especially while in clinics.

if an older instructor teells you to do something diff, do it, dont be defensive, ive seen that before, and it will hold you back. i ski so much better after becoming an instructor, if you listen and follow, you will too

p.s.- you need to be able to laugh at yourself b/c everyone gets made fun of in clinics, especially newbies, and the kids.

i've been a ski instructor for the past five years at mt snow. you don't have to worry about anything. as long as you are a decent skier, then the mt will take care of the rest. they train you and everything.
i worked with the little kids, 4-6 yr olds. they are pretty easy to work with until they start crying(which in inevitable). make sure you have candy, that helps a lot.

DONT DO IT!!!!!!!! i was an instructor for 1 season. the only reason i did it was for a free season pass. kids suck! i hate little kids there annoying and dont ever listen, dont do it! well you can but im warning you.

Ive been a ski instructor for 7 years. Do not worry about what to say, especially if it is little kids. All the parents care about is to see their kid on skis, thats all they want. Even if the kid is crying, they know that you most likely can't help it. But, do have some kind of Gummy candy (not hard because they can choke more easily on it), because it does make them stop crying. The mountain will train you, but pay attention and do as well as you can during clinics, they are evaluating you and depending on how well you do, you might get a little older kids who cry the whole time. If you like little kids, you will love teaching them because im sure you remember the first time you were on skis and that feeling you had...

i was a ski instructor for the last 3 seasons up until the last, and yeah i did it for the pass, but i got certified (rip OFF!) and all of that jive, and worked with kids and adults from 4-60 yrs old, kids suck because a ton of them are spoiled, and expect to have a lot of individual attention, so they throw fits and such... but most of them just mimic your every move, and kids r very trusting so that you can tell them to do something and they will try it without fear, old people suck also because they see a young kid on twins and think 'he doesn't know shit', they show no respect and waste both of your time, my advice is not to instruct at all, there is an old joke about instructors,

what's the diff between a ski instructor ans a large pizza?

a large pizza can feed a family of four,

yeah, i know lame, but the money sux, includung tips, your bosses expect you to 'clinic' in-other words (stay out of the park) and 99% of you co-workers r sraight edge homosexuals!
ski for yourself not a goddamn pass or money!

my cousin teaches snowboarding, i helped him one day, basically just told them to follow me and he helped them if they fell down. kids are a pain to teach.

on the 'clinic' issue, i did the morning clinics, and yes they do expect you to clinic all the time, but make it known that you're a park skier and that you will ski for yourself, dont be rude, but dont take their crap. other than first hour clinics, i dont think i did more than 5 other clinics in the last 4 years.

hook up with other skiers that ski park, or arent there being bitches to get their PSIA 3 certs, if there are other skiers your age, be a leader, and show the older skier that the 'young guns' can rip.

when i started there, noone there had heard of twins or sliding rails, park skiers did spreads, and snowboarders trashed you when yyou took the park lift.

today, if you start working at my mount. and have twins, they'll ask you if youve met crazy joe, the snowboarders ask if you'll ski with them, and everybody takes me (relativly) seriously.

just be a leader, especially if there are very few to no freeskiers.

Teaching kids is way more fun (i find) because they have no expectations and just want to have fun. Adults demand and expect results cause its THEIR $$$.
My ski school has the concept of fun, then safety, then learning... The reason for this is because 1.the first thing a parent asks is 'did you have fun darling?'. 2.if they are dead or in hospital then they are too busy being pissed at you to ask what the kid learnt. 3.The chances of a kid saying 'i learnt counter rotation and pivoting today' are minimal, but if they had fun they will be like 'It was so cool, we learnt to ski little turns in trees and stuff'.
Learn it...live it... love it:
1.Fun
2.Safety
3.Learning

All you have to do is show up for the hiring clinic, they'll teach you the basics there, and then they'll begin to teach you on snow stuff when there's snow. Obviously.

hmmn, i started teaching for the $. i kept going cause teaching kids to ski is cool. i'm still there cause i've met so many cool people, most of who can out ski me..... keeps you on your toes.

and i mean, c'mon, a season pass, plus getting paid to ski? what more can you want?

At least its skiing. i get more skiing in than any lifty (ski patrol is different).
And who says your with shitty skiers all day?
I taught heaps of lessons where i got to basically free ski with the kids following me down blacks, bumps, trees, and even a few little 6 foot drops. We had a lesson where one kid was chucking backflips in the park - that was in a school group. if you can tap into that its the best cause their all teens that just wanna rip.

exactly. i've been doing it long enough that i get the kids that can ski pretty well, so we just go rip up the steeps and the park....... real fun.

My hill's fairly progressive as far as the programs it offers the customres. I actually teach kids how to slide rails and hit jumps. its apretty good gig, cause the whole lesson revolves around jibbing whatever the kids want. its a good time.

the clinic things really arent to bad, but as someone else said, you have to pick and choose. I mean, who the hell wants to do the run of a 1000 steps? so lame. but some of the edging techniques will make you a stronger all around skiier for sure.

honestly though, dont do it for the money. you may break even each week, which would be doing pretty damn good. the trick is to look at it like, even on your worst day, you;re a paid skiier, getting people into the most insane sport there is. you;ll gain a new found respect for how crazy we all are when you see the faces of never evers trying to get down the very same green slope you do with your eyes closed cause you;re too damn high to pay attention.

what I hated beeing a ski instructor was that I hade to give courses or beeing in clinics and don't ski except in a switch snowplow or snowplow
man going down a hill is fun but all day long in the green that's not all I want to do
you can't really ski for you that's why I stoped
but for the advice
let the kids have fun, play games all of this without danger while they learn a little bit
and the kids and the parents will be happy
