Windells Media Interns Wanted!!!

This past Summer I had the chance of a lifetime to be a photo intern at Windells Camp. They are now accepting applications for this coming Summer! So polish up your resumes and gear lists and apply!

Thats not quite true... You can make money there but it takes determination and shooting a lot and taking a ton of opportunities as they present themselves.

Highly doubtful and they do SO MUCH work. The amount of work they do for a session you could make a couple thousand with some freelance work.

He is not, he snowboards but Darcy showed me the portfolio when he was at my house a while back and I must say it was quite impressive. I think hes way better than me and definitely deserves to get this opportunity.

Because they probably want legit photo/video people who aren't potentially tied down by their parents. Its really not a job for someone younger than 18.

Young = young adult. As much as it sucks having your abilities go unnoticed because other kids your age are stupid, it makes complete sense. It's in their best interests to hire someone who is at least somewhat likely to be more competent.

Hahahahaha that's how I feel for most of the young editors and filmers on here. They essentially are put to the bottom just because of their age, not even the quality of their work and such even matters then.

That's pretty much true with anything when you aren't a legal adult. Fortunately with art, you don't need internship jobs to get noticed. The fact that Vimeo even exists before you're 18 years old puts you at a huge advantage over the filmmakers of years past.

Internships in the ski industry generally mean getting paid peanuts (or nothing at all) for doing bitch work. True, experience is good and Hood is an absolute blast, but you aren't missing out on some golden opportunity here.

also, if you are younger then 18, you are legally a minor, so you need supervision. This means they need a staff member to watch over you, no matter how mature you are. So it's kind of a hassle for them.

yup. after all the reasons i just read, none of them are good enough in my opinion to have an 18 and up rule.

i guarantee a kid like zac probably has more talent and work ethic than a shit ton of the people who applied for the internship, and if somebody like him were willing to give his summer to windells, why not hire him? seems kinda retarded to me

i also don't really think somebody under 18 would need more supervision than a legal adult. the first year i interned at Woodward, i was under 18 but since i was one of the more experienced filmers, they let me do whatever i wanted. i could set up night shoots, stay out way later than all the campers were allowed to, go on rooftops, stuff like that. windells could learn a thing or two from woodward's internship program


all it sounds like to me is that windells is cheaping the fuck out. they're not looking for interns (who are usually young, might not have the most experience, and are looking to learn), they're looking to basically just have a legit, experienced video staff. they only call it an internship so windells doesn't have to pay them.

Another point too:
An 18 year old fresh out of high school is going to want to use the summer to make some money + do an internship on the side if possible. Not saying that its the same for most, but most of the time this is the case. Leaving it open to any highschooler or at least a younger age would benefit them (More entries). There are some extremely talented younger film makers like Zac who would love a shot at this, and can afford missing a summer with out pay. Hope this makes sense? Im not that great at putting my thoughts down through typing. Windells is just cheap as fuck (like will said) I understand saving and watching the pennies but come on? With hundreds of kids rolling through each paying a couple grand Im sure they can afford hiring a dope film team then offering an open age internship if all info falls into place.

Again sorry if this makes no sense. haha

i wish windells would be a little more flexible with the work schedule. it seems a little ridiculous that they expect talented adult filmers to give up the whole summer just to do an unpaid internship at a summer camp. if they're talented and legal adults, they don't need the experience enough to give up that much potential time and money. windells doesn't get that.

at woodward, kids (especially the more talented ones) can basically choose how long they want to intern for. it can be anywhere from a couple weeks to a whole summer. that way, they get a wide variety of kids, and a lot of them are ridiculously talented. this system works so much better because for a lot of talented filmers, a whole summer of an unpaid internship is too much, but they are willing to give up maybe 3 or 4 weeks. so they can just roll in, stay a few weeks, have some fun, learn something, get experience, gain footage for a reel, and woodward ends up with a lot of amazing footage. and because kids don't have to give up their whole summer, woodward is constantly bringing in new talented filmers and photographers. and many of the best interns (and actual video staff) were under 18. MUCH better system.

sorry for double post, but i would like to also point out that if you intern once or twice at woodward and they like what you do, they sometimes offer paid internships, and the length of the internship is still essentially up to the intern.

Sounds like someone should write windells a nice email letting them know about this system. When I won the contest last summer for the internship my parents turned and looked at me when I said it was a full summer of driving up and down the Mtn with no pay they were like "Are they serious?" Bottom line someone with some sort of higher power must let them know or else there videos are slowly going to go to shit. Or become so split boxed edited to where know one knows what the fucks going on. hahahaha

i'm glad you brought up the split boxed thing. EVERY windells video is the exact same. don't get me wrong, i enjoy watching them, but they're all identical. some mt. hood time lapses, super bright colors, a lot of fisheye shots, and a toooon of split boxed stuff. it would be cool if they tried to filter more filmers through windells over the summer so there could be more variation in their content. i know the way i would shoot/edit a windells edit would be entirely different from the way you would do it, and the way zac would do it would be entirely different from the way i would do it. but by getting one team for the whole summer, every damn session video is going to be super similar

Exactly. From my understanding when I met the guys it seemed like you learn how to do the split boxes and gain experience uploading videos on a weekly schedule. Thats it. A whole summer you should come out of an internship like that knowing almost everything there is to know haha not literally but you get the idea.
