How tight do you buckle your boots when your not wearing them to prevent the plastic from warping?

my dad told me that your supposed to buckle them when your not wearing them but how tight are you supposed to buckle them?

I've never buckled mine when I wasn't wearing them and I haven't had any issues with warping or anything and I've had the boots for 2 seasons.

it doesn't make a noticeable difference


related question while on topic, do you unbuckle your boots when walking around the lodge or to the parking lots?

i always buckle them to the tightness i wear them at so they are held to that shape. i'm not sure if it really makes a difference but it can't hurt. i don't see there being a problem during the season but it might be a good idea if they're going to be sitting for a few months.

It just helps keep the form of the boot. It doesn't seem to make a big difference though. I do it about half of the time and don't notice any change when I don't do it.

i usually keep them pretty lose so when im walking its pretty comfy, but this is something ive never considered before. can they warp pretty badly?

It depends on the shell type really. Some will warp a lot and others wont. Its a good idea to buckle them to where you normally would have them at just in case.

I just throw mine on the second buckle which is not nearly close to how i wear them. my boots suck though, i honestly hate them

i keep mine buckled because the crazy lady at the ski shop yelled at me for the importance of it.

this. i definitely notice a difference when i dont buckle them and they are sitting in a cold trunk all the way to the mountain.

basically if they get cold while theyre unbuckled, its going to be noticable. if youre able to keep them room temp or something then you probably wont notice a difference if its only a few days or a week between taking them off and putting them back on. if youre out for a little while, definitely buckle them to whatever you usually have them adjusted to while riding.

I keep them buckled to normal skiing tightness. I really dislike my calves moving around a lot. Plus, I have a pretty amazing walk mode on my boots, so if I do ever feeling like normal walking with boots, just flip it to walk.

If you are worried about warping, I always store my boots buckled down 1 notch. Keeps the shape.

I putthem on the first notch for every buckle. And fold the booster in half so it doesn't get twisted. Plus my dogs have eaten two pairs of ski boots on me already so....

buckle them one or two notches past where they would not be holding on at all. my technica boots are like hinged on the side and dont warp so if you have those you dont have too

I buckle them to what i wear them because i have spks and when i dont they feel so weird and are a pain to buckle up

yeah if you buckle them when your not wearing them, then its a lot easier to carry (not having to worry about loose buckles and other shit getting caught on something)

i buckle them the same whether or not i'm wearing them. and i keep them warm...i love my ace of spades boots

It really does nothing for 3-piece boots.


The concept is that the overlap boots have plastic memory. If you leave them wide open, the flaps will open up and make getting the boot on difficult. It will over time, fatigue the plastic.
