no your average gun isn't very effective against the american military, but its much better than nothing. this is why im all for citizens being able to own anything a foot soldier can carry. when you have a large portion of the population owning guns, and a decent amount of the population owning a gun thats effective in combat, and militias and other civilian organizations, its extremely effective.
not saying that if guns were declared illegal in the US that we would turn into some extremely corrupt police state over night, but over time it would be very very possible. its a risk thats very real and a reality in many parts of the world.
you can bet that if the cops started showing up at peoples homes demanding they give up their weapons, id be 100% for anyone who decided to start popping them in the head. and id hope that citizens wouldn't allow it to happen.
and im not saying that we need to "accept the grim history of the human race as inevitabilities" im just saying that guns have absolutely nothing to do with it. its human nature, and as long as the government and the bad guys can get a hold of firearms, citizens should be able to also. you just cannot defend yourself effectively against someone with a gun if you dont have one yourself. and restricting law abiding citizens from the ability to defend themselves, it gives the wrong people more power over them.
