Concealed weapons

All this stuff in the news about concealed weapons on how we should and shouldn't be able to carry, what are your guys thoughts? Second Amendment!!!!

the benefit is that you can defend yourself from a crimnal who wants to kill you or someone else. citizens carrying guns means citizens having power over criminals, which is good... its pretty simple.

You can believe what ever you want but the facts just are not on your side. 
Restricting responsible citizens access to self defense (as in defending ones self) and banning the legal carry of firearms in "gun free zones" is just limiting the chance of innocent people making it away from an active shooter scenario like in Tucson even less likley.
Not to mention concealed carry holders are statistically the most responsible firearms holders

So I was just watching the news and a man in his mid 50's was Going shopping at a wall-mart. Some guy attacked him On his way in demanding his money and shit but the old guy had a concealed weapons permit and pulled the gun. They suspect took off and nobody was hurt. The end

I think people severely overestimate the presence of people carrying guns.

Whenever there is a shooting, they always say "well if people carried guns, this wouldn't have happened."

The AZ shooting is a fine example. It occurred in a state where you can easily get a gun, yet no one in that crowd had a weapon.

And in some cases, I think it's better if the other people don't have a gun. If you see a guy shooting into a crowd, then 2 more people draw weapons and begin firing, are you going to know they are shooting only at the original shooter, or assume that they are working together?

What I mean is that if i was carrying a gun, and the situation got chaotic, i would probably shoot anyone else i saw with a gun drawn for my own safety, despite them possibly not being the actual attacker.

Take a look at Chicago, one of the most violent cities in America yet has the strictest gun laws. Same with Detroit, same with DC.

Arizona has far fewer gun crimes if you take out the drug smugglers on the border which aren't even from the U.S., yet the state has the some of the most lenient laws in the country. Sure AZ is in the spotlight because of what happened in Tucson, but that was a crime committed by an individual with severe mental problems. If this guy had been denied the right to legally purchase a firearm, it wouldn't have stopped him from obtaining one one way or another.

You ban guns and all you do is create a black market. Just look at Mexico.

Woozy you're a gentleman and a scholar.

I'm curious, do you carry? If so, what, and what state do you live in?

I'm a CCW holder in Arizona (although a permit is no longer necessary) and an NRA certified safety instructor. I carry everywhere I go other than airports and federal buildings obviously.

You make great arguments for the right to own and carry a firearm. I've yet to meet an anti-gun type who can put together a solid argument against it. Well done.

that is completely false. My town is a fairly well off town with little crime besides the occasional domestic dispute or DUI. A couple years ago a guy down the street from me got beaten to death in his drive way. Had he carried a gun, he would have been alive.

I'm all for the right to carry a weapon. I just strongly believe that they need to make the requirements to purchase and carry a firearm way stricter and that law enforcement needs to step up their game in getting illegal weapons off the street.

i live in salt lake now and you would never think of it as being a dangerous place, however after seeing a guy get stabbed and robbed coming out of a bar and having quite a few dangerous situations come up on the public transport train.. i know asap after i turn 21 i will have a ccw and will be carrying almost all the time.. its just a matter of me trusting myself to make the right decission and wanting to be able to protect myself if the need comes up

How so? Point to that interpretation any time prior to 2008. Replace scalia with a moderate judge and the ruling would be overturned.
1. Taken in the context of the day the 2nd amendment is for states rights to keep a state militia and is near meaningless today.
2. Taken as a living document, the meaning is ambiguous and should default to the jurisdiction of elected officials from within the local districts... Not decided by lawyers far removed in washington

Like I said earlier, if the founding fathers only meant that Americans can form well-regulated militias, then they would have left out the second half. The Supreme court agrees, and that decision wasn't the work of a single guy. It was the work of a group of people whose job is to interpret the constitution, and in this case there really wasn't a whole ton of room for interpretation. The Bill of Rights is pretty clear

Pardon me.  More people PER CAPITA are shot in the U.S. every year.  As well, more people PER CAPITA have hand guns in the U.S.

But also consider the demographics. Does Canada have any cities like Baltimore, Detroit, and Chicago? Also, I think the Canada US border is a little more calm than the US Mexico border

Definitely. The U.S has far more, and worse, trouble spots than Canada.  All in all, I think everyone just needs to calm down and not reach for their gun when something bothers them.

call me a pussy, but guns frighten me. knowing that someone has the power to take my life at the squeeze of a  trigger (or even just a spook and flinch of a finger) causes some unrest. sure, if people could be responsible with weapons, no big deal. but the last thing i want is to be gunned down by some creepshow wandering in a residential area, strung out, and looking to make a quick buck.

even then, in the case where people argue that weapons are ok to have for self defense, i would be reluctant to pull a gun on someone even if i were being attacked, knowing that i have now just caused this person to be defensive and feel like they need to fight for their life. i'd rather take my chances talking down a mugger or just giving them my wallet than pulling a gun out, forcing them to react out of fear and potentially trying to kill me.

needless to say, i can't really think of a scenario where having a gun would be a positive thing..

You never ever ever pull a CCW without the intention to kill whatever the fuck your pointing it at. It is down right illegal and stupid to pull your weapon for intimidation purposes...

Not to mention you probably are not mentally prepared to defend yourself if you pull a gun on a mugger and leave an opening for him to "react out of fear" that would only happen if you drew your firearm and stood there in uncertainty trying to figure out what to do with it... anyone trained or even thoughtful civis would not draw until it was time to rock and roll

Maybe, but i think it brings the debate around to what gun controls are OK? I mean in AZ obviously they might have been a little relaxed. I want to have a gun, but I also want mentally unstable people and felons to be banned from acquiring one

And they are.. Federally... you know that the Arizona shooter would never have aquired that Glock through appropriate channels unless he had a fuckin family member in the local government to scrub his record and conceal his mental state to keep up appearances

take the textual approach, the individual right is to keep and bear military weapons per the states' need to have a well regulated militia.

nothing beyond that... no hand guns no hunting weapons.

My family owns guns. My dad has 3 shotguns and about 5 deer rifles and two handguns. I have one handgun.

We both have our carry licenses as well (WA State). We will sometimes have our handguns with us in our cars but don't really every carry them as we don't have comfortable holsters (he has a .44 magnum revolver and a .22 revolver and I have a 1911 .45 ACP). Know why we have our carry license? So that we can walk into a gun store with money in our wallet, find a gun we like (I am currently looking for a good 9mm like the Browning Hi Power or a .357 magnum... if anyone has any suggestions please let me know of inexpensive ones that aren't shit quality) and we can pay for it and walk out the door with it rather than having to deal with the 30 day wait period or whatever it is.

Now, would I have any qualms about shooting a motherfucker in the face that enters my house intending to do me, my folks, or my dog harm? No especially if they are armed as well.




Also, want to know what the Japanese were most scared of trying to do during WWII? Invade mainland US because every Southern hick, Northern woodsman, and Midwestern rancher would be on the Pacific coast with their guns taking potshots at them.

In which he proclaims the Constitution is to be taken with a grain of salt and not considered applicable law...
