Mounting at Home

I'm trying to mount some Marker Dukes on a pair of CRJs at home. I'd go to a shop, but my boots are too worn down for a shop to mount, and I don't have time to borrow a similar sole length boot. Bindings came off an old ski so they're set to my boots, etc.

I've got a print out jig, and read you typically use a 3.5mm drill bit for mounting, but wasn't sure how deep to drill?? Any help would be appreciated...

Typical drill bit dimensions:

3.5x9: usually no metal laminates.
4.3x9.5: Skis with metal layers.

Thats just sort of a guideline. Most skis have the requirements on the topsheet somewhere.

a very unscientific way to do it, is to just put the screws in the bindings so they stick out the bottom. then hold the bit next to the exposed threads. mark the bit with paint or tape at the same depth.  BE CAREFUL---its real easy to drill too deep. i use a drill bit collar so its impossible to go to deep.

it's worth getting a special drill bit for skis, they're not too expensive and will drill the right depth without having to worry about screwing over your skis

They aren't cheap. At that point, you might as well pay a real tech to do it.

I just did it by hand with a pozidriver, probably should have mounted an old ski first but it all worked out. I'll never pay for a mount again.

Get a drill press and set it so it will only go down to the depth thats wanted and its make perfect perdendicular holes

Or you can ask your shop tech to do the mount anyways and just have him write "Fail" in all the tests... Might cost you a lot of beer.
