Thinking about going to UVM next year for college, but first i would like to get a general idea about the location. Someone who's been there or knows something interesting about the town, post it up, Anything helps! Food? People? Activities? Drugs? anything?

Sophomore at uvm and native vermonter. UVM is fucking sick:

Food: TONS of unique resturaunts downtown

People: if you can tone out the hipies and the bros, I think you'll find some of the most diverse and chill(hate that word) group of people you'll ever meet(on second thought there aren't a whole lot of minorities but it is vermont)

Activities: it's a party school and campus is right in town so there are tons of house parties and frat parties every weekend and a good amount of nearby mountains to choose from and campus is mad close to the lake for summer and warm weather shenanigans.

Drugs: .....it's UVM. nuff said.

Wanna my friends from high school goes there, doesn't ski or snowboard or anything, but he loves it there. Says its a chill environment, people are nice, classes are good, I only saw him over the summer like once, and talked to him quick but he had nothing bad to say about it.

Junior at UVM (Graduating next fall) from PA and I thought i'd give you my 2 cents here. UVM is a fun school and Burlington is a pretty sick small city. If you are into anything environmentally related, RSENR is the place! There may be alot of hippies in your classes, but the professors are pretty damn good and you get to do alot of interesting projects and research.

Food: So many good spots in and around Burlington....and the food on campus is half decent (New World for the win). Bierhaus = delicious beer on tap!

People: A lot of hippies/hipsters, but besides that its a pretty great population of younger people. Not that much sports bros and jocks compared to alot of other D1 schools because we don't have football and baseball anymore and UVM has a pretty small greek life community so there isn't really too much of a fratbro atmosphere either.

Just alot of laid back people who all want to have fun and will offer you a PBR without even knowing you.

Activities: Pretty good parties if you know where to look, Stowe is within an hour, Lake Champlain is where its at in the summer for everything from cliff jumping to grilling some brats.

Drugs: I'd say there is a fairly large population of kids at UVM and in Burlington who smoke.....a smaller percentage doing shrooms and acid on weekends.....and an even smaller percentage doing hard shit, But if you know where to look you can get anything. I stay away from the drug scene and can still have a great time.

Pretty good, albeit expensive school....fun town. I couldn't have picked a better place to spend my undergrad. Good luck choosing!

i live right outside Burlington and UVM is pretty high on my list of colleges right now, i'm a junior in high-school.
there's a lot of fun stuff to do around burlington. As for skiing, there are a lot of options, Bolton is about 30 minutes away, Stowe and Smuggs are a little less than an hour away, mad river glen and sugarbush are also about an hour away, probably less

So many effing threads on UVM and Burlington.... do a search and I guarantee you at least ten will show up.

That being said, I won't be any more of a douche...

It's a cool town. Lots of weed at all times and places. Even though UVM is a "dry" campus, there's still a good amount of partying and smoking in dorms or at least there was in mine. There are lots of kids posing to be something that they are not (such as hippies or poor in general) but most people you meet are extremely nice. Everyone's ape shit about dubstep for some reason. We get lots of good music because we're sort of the stop between Boston, NYC and Montreal. UVM itself is actually a great school with tons of very influential and accomplished faculty. Best skiing in New England in my opinion, but you'll have to drive 45 min-2 hours if you want to go anywhere other than Bolton. UVM SSC provides busses to all the mountains and so many kids ride you won't have an issue getting there. Here's my plug: join the UVM SSC : ) !! What else.... housing SUCKS. You have to live on campus your first two years so you won't have to worry about it but if you're living off campus you will get screwed by slumlords.

That was pretty scatter-brained.

Honestly, though, do a search for threads on UVM and Burlington. There are TONS.

haha yeah UVM is for sure a party school...no matter how dry they claim to be, they're not. Getting drugs is as easy as getting something to eat..

UVM is dope And Higher Ground gets a lot of good shows all year.
There is also a fuckin heavy herb flow coming through burlington from canada at all times!
but there are a lot of poser local hippies if you know what i mean. like all these fuckin stupid chicks act like they are long time locals, and act like they are deadheads. its retarded but i digress. The actual hippies around the area are cool people. and most everyone is nice.

if i didnt want to go out west so bad i would probly end up at UVM

I lived in Burlington for 6 years and I would still be there if I didn't get a job in Europe. Such a sick town, I am always pumped when I get the chance to go back. You won't regret it.

I went to school in Burlington, St. Mike's. I loved Burlington during those four years, but apart from CT it was the only thing I  knew. Actually thought I wanted to live in Burlington. Then I explored the entire U.S. for year, riding my bike across the country twice and driving the entire country twice. After spending a lot of time in 35+ states I realize Burlington is actually pretty mediocre.  Way better food, people, and natural landscapes in countless other places. Pretty sure Southern Utah or Colorado is where I'll end up

Burlington is really nice, doing the same, looking to go to St. Mikes or Chaimplain and the city has just a good vibe, the people are nice and there is a ton to do. It nice and near the mountains and it is just pretty dope.

I beg to differ man, I visited a couple weeks ago and we got food like 5 minutes into bton, it took at least 45 minutes to secure a weed hookup

huge bro town. very polarized students on the uvm campus. you're either a bro, into a club, an engineer or premed. 80% of the girls ive met here are psych majors, and we have a huge jersey population. Ski areas are close, just hop on the highway. as for drugs, you'll find more than your hearts content of E, sid, weed and other things
