Legit tour spots in tahoe???

Though the snow sucks here atm, i just skined up my arg's and wanna start hiking around the lake, as there seems to be so many nice spots to get some untouched when we do get pow. Any suggestions of some good places around the lake to park and skin to some spots?

check out the tgr thread on tahoe conditions, you'll have to dig around a bit but there should be lots of good stuff

Yea their 133 waist and they r gonna be legit.... When the snow comes. Noone i know skins. Someone hike with me i just moved here and ive been itching.

i dont remember what site it is but if you go into the store called backcountry in truckee the guys there can help you out alot with places to go skinning, also if you dont have one you should buy a beacon

Yup and they are Reverse, reverse.....

Also touring without a beacon, even in these perfect snowpack conditions is stupid. Another thing, don't go out by yourself. Seriously, you will be wasting emergency services time looking for a dead body...

Do you even have a shovel, friends, probe, beacon, a clue?

West coast bc is not the same thing as least coast bc. Avalanches do occur on a rather regular basis.

super easy to skin up mt rose.  another sweet zone is the heavenly to gardnerville run, its car laps tho

Ok well everybody has to start somewhere. Until this season i havnt been as fortunate as some ppl have their whole lives and grow up in the mountains. I will get a beacon and have heard alot of great things about mt rose. Its not like im new to skiing either. First time i skied west i hit keyhole at alpine, not sayin thats special, but i wouldnt be touring here if i didt know the risks. Stubborn people

you wouldn't be touring AT ALL without a beacon and other BC gear, and friends IF you DID know the risks.

Don't be dumb dude, you should NOT be in the BC if you don't have the gear. It's irresponsible towards your family, anyone else that might be on the slope below you, and it's irresponsible to anyone that might have to put their lives at risk to rescue you or anyone else if you make a mistake.

So you moved out West this year, and you want to get into the BC?

Here's a checklist:

Beacon,
Shovel,
Probe,
The ability to use the three things listed above quickly, safely, and effectively
Avalanche and BC travel education classes that include field experience,
lots of hours focused on route finding and good decision making, out with people that know more than you

Until then, stay out of the BC for everyone's sake.

This warrants repeating. Not a snipe on you, OP, you're right we all started somewhere, you're starting out and we're just trying to help you not die. Simple as that. That checklist is spot on for anyone who wants to ski the good stuff.

Job's Peak, Freal Peak (sp?), Job's Sister, Mt. Tallack, the bs of Kirkwood, and lots of spots in Hope Valley.

seriously, hit up TGR and message some dudes over there(there is a Tahoe thread). IF, and thats a big IF, theyre down to let you tag along you better have all your equipment, and ask a lot of questions. ask them to explain every decision they make, it will really build your knowledge.

Basically, you absolutely need equipment, then try and hook up with older (30+ older means they take less risks) AT guys and learn from them. again, NS.com is not the place to find touring partners, TGR is.


Also you should defenitly offer beer and/or weed in exchange for them taking you along.

This is probly the most helpful advice you will get here.
