Starting to make crews

i'm gonna start making crewnecks this weekend following the crewneck tutorial
are there any helpful tips anyone can think of to help me for my first try?
good places to find fabric and ribbing?

make sure that the fabric is pinned together correctly BEFORE sewing. ripping seams is such a bitch, especially if you have even a decent sewing machine.

also, the first few times, get some real cheap fabric, as there's a high chance you'll mess up and won't like them or something similar.
