With a lot of kids, I'd say that's right on point.
In VT it's a state law. All that happens if you leave it up is a patroller might ask you to put it down, but I don't really see any reason not to put it down when you get on the lift. I lvie in Salt Lake now, and spend alot of time riding lifts that don't even have bars, so when I do get on one with a bar I often forget to put it down. I could really care less either way, the only thing that bothers s when people put the bar down without letting everyone know it's coming down. Never fun to get smacked in the back of the head with a metal bar.
Last weekend I skiied with a friend and his foreign exchange student from holland (he always went to the alps) and he put the bar down too. Threw me off.
