So I shoot on a 7D and have been editing in final cut pro 7
I use the dlsr plugin to import my shoots into final cut
I have been exporting using Quicktime conversion and then going straight to compress using the settings I found best for uploading to vimeo.
I am not sure if I am going wrong exporting out of final cut but the quality I have been getting when finally uploaded to vimeo is not what I want and have been seeing in other HDSLR edits.
I am just wondering what the best way to export to retain the best quality when I upload to vimeo
Not saying my way is the best way to do it, but here are my settings when I'm exporting within FCP. If you have final cut studio, i recommend you use Compressor and add a gamma correction (think that's what it's called) filter and set that to 1.15.
for personal viewing: 1. file>export>using quicktime conversion>options>video settings 2. compression type: H.264 3. Frame Rate: 24 fps 4. Key Frames: Every 24 frames 5. Date Rate: Automatic 6. Quality: Best 7. Encoding: Best Quality (Multi-Pass) 8. Press OK to go back a screen, then click Size under Video 9. select the size of your LOWEST quality HD clip (If I have all 1080p clips and one 720p clip, I will export to 720p) 10. hit OK to go back a screen, then click Sound Settings 11. Format: Apple Lossless 12. Rate: 48 kHz 13. Quality: Best 14. Hit OK, you are now ready to export. the streaming thing doesn't really matter for this export
for online: 1. file>export>using quicktime conversion>options>video settings 2. compression type: H.264 3. Frame Rate: 24 fps 4. Key Frames: Every 24 frames 5. Date Rate: Automatic 6. Quality: Halfway between medium and high 7. Encoding: Faster Encode (Single Pass) 8. Press OK to go back a screen, then click Size under Video 9. select the size of your LOWEST quality HD clip (If I have all 1080p clips and one 720p clip, I will export to 720p) 10. hit OK to go back a screen, then click Sound Settings 11. Format: AAC 12. Rate: 44.1 kHz (this is CD quality) 13. Quality: Normal 14. Hit OK to go back a screen, Prepare for Internet Streaming: Fast Start 15. you are now ready to export.
I'm having exporting problems with FCE that it won't upload to vimeo as HD. I'm shooting 720p.60p
Are my settings wrong?
Compression type: H.264
Frame rate: 60 fps
Key frames: Every 60 frames
Data Rate: Automatic
Quality: High
Encoding: Faster Encode (Single Pass)
Size: 1280 x 720 HD
Sound Settings
Format: AAC
Rate: 44.1 kHz
Quality: Normal
Prepare for Internet Streaming: Fast Start
FCE doesn't do 60p, and i'm assuming vimeo doesn't either.
Follow the workflow from abek, and then export either at 30 or 24 fps, and set the bitrate to 5000kpbs (assuming its going to vimeo), and keep everything else the same
