Hey, my names Joey Spencer. Back in January 2010 I received my first serious concussion back at my home mountain- Apex. I was required to be airlifted from the mountain to Kelowna General Hospital. For about a week I had no idea what was going on. Slowly I began to recover and about 2 months later I finished my winter off strong at Whistler BC. It was a big roadblock because the doctor told me, three serious concussions and I should stop skiing.
I moved to Whistler BC this season as I recently graduated. I live with a homie and my filmer ( Making It Productions, skistep.tumblr.com ). The season was off to a great start. I teamed up with Line skis and was rollin at a good pace. I caught a downhill edge off a rail back on december 1st. For about 5 seconds all I saw was white and my whole body vibrated. This is concussion number 2.
I saw a doctor mid december and she told me to stop skiing. It was a big shock to me. I really thought it over, and I went home to see a specialist and my personal doctor to figure out the best thing for me. He cleared me to ski but said don't hit my head again which means im going to take a new approach to skiing. Hopefully push out an edit soon of my return. MUCH LOVE.
