Digital camcorders

I am lookin for a digital camcorder for filming skiing and making a movie at the end of the season (nothing big just for me and my friends). I was thinking minidv cause i want digital, good image quality, and megapixel and am mainly looking at the sony dcr trv25. I dont want to spend much over $1200 cnd. Is the sony a good bet or should i look for something else?

i don't know much about this stuff except features...but keep in mind...when you buy sony, sometimes you pay a lot more just for the name.

JVC makes some sweet digital cameras. I shot on my friends all winter. Also, Panasonic has some good ones, and Sony is always good except like mentioned above sometimes you just paying extra for the name! SOrry I don't any of the model #s or names!

I have a 305u from JVC that I used two winters ago and loved it to pieces. Just upgraded it so I don't use it much anymore. Basicly what you want to look for is Opitical zoom, Tape format (mini dv), warenty, features can be fun but in essence are pointless, threaded lens, and then the ability to add onto it. It would suck to get a camera and not be able to add on and need to get a totaly new camera to do anything else.
