im writing an essay for a grd 11 photo class. i need to pick a few photographers who have advanced photography. there are 3 time periods but i need help with finding a photographer who is not only a great photographer and has created some stunning works of art but has also advanced the world of photography. from 1837 to 1900 (his photos taken then) ive used google and looked at other galleries n shit, but id like some of your opinions. thanks
so you can suggest a name and reasons why. i just have to write a paragraph or whatever on him (but not 5 sentences... more like 500 words)
please help, oh and this can also be a discussion board for those photographers if u want.
sparknotes: photographer who has advanced photography 1837-1900 name and info if possible

Louis Daguerre would be a good one to write about, although I am guessing that would be the first pick for most people.
Alfred Sieglitz also did a lot to make photography (somewhat) accepted as a fine art, although a lot of his work was also in the 20th century.
Find a book on early photo history and see who interests you, that should make the writing a bit easier.

If Stieglitz interests you, you could look into the other pictorialists as well, although he is one of the more notable ones.

If you're interested, check out Oscar Rejlander and Jerry Uelsmann. Rejlander did some really cool combination prints, and Uelsmann is a more modern version of that. Amazing work.

William Henry Fox Talbot?
Quite honestly I'm not a huge fan of learning about historic photographers, but that's a name that comes to mind.
